Hi I'm Jared

I grew up in Washington state. I have been a Mormon all of my life. I now live in Colorado and drive 40 miles one way to church.

About Me

I live in a small community in NE Colorado. I have 5 kids and work as a crop consultant. I stay pretty busy chasing after my kids and their various activities. I like to be outside and fix things. I graduated from BYU with a BS degree in Crop and Soil Science. I took the job that I am currently in after graduation from college and have been in the same job and community ever since. I have always had a love for animals, and for a long time considered becoming a vet. However I really enjoy being a crop consultant and look at every field as a big puzzle and it is my job to get all of the pieces together to put the puzzle together to help make the planet more productive.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon. My parents are both Mormon and I have a long line of Mormon ancestors, some of which came across the plains in handcarts and wagons. I was born with spina bifida and am alive and healthy today because of blessings give to me from the priesthood and special prayers and fasting in my behalf. I was raised in a strong Mormon community and had great friends who helped me maintain the standards of the church. I served a 2 year mission for the church. But even with all of those experiences in my life the reason that I am a Mormon is because I know that the church is true. I have had my prayers answered by the promptings from the Holy Ghost telling me that it is true. I get the same feelings of peace and joy in my heart when I read the Book of Mormon and when I hear the living prophet speak. That is why I am a Mormon, because I know that the teachings are from Jesus Christ and that by living them I can be happy and be able to return to live with Heavenly Father again.

How I live my faith

I live 45 minutes away from the nearest church building but I feel that it is very important to attend church every Sunday and to attend the church activities that happen every Wednesday and the various other activities that happen through the week. Currently I am a member of the bishopric (leadership of the local church) and as such have meetings and responsibilities that require me to be at the church at 7:45 a.m. and many times do not get home until after 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. I am a home teacher to 8 families who live up to 45 minutes away from me in several different directions. I try to keep all of the commandments and my associates know that I do not drink alcohol or smoke and that I don’t use foul language. I work hard at being honest with those around me. I feel that it is important to read from the scriptures daily and to pray every morning and night and during the day as I need help from Heavenly Father.

What is being a Mormon like?

Jared
I enjoy being a Mormon. I have great friends both inside and outside of the church. My life is pretty normal, I get up in the morning, I go to work and try to make a decent living so I can take care of my family. I get to come home to a great family and then try to spend time playing with my kids (usually some sort of sport). I help my kids with homework and getting ready for the next day. We try to pray together, study scriptures together, work together and have fun together. Show more Show less
