Hi I'm Joel Nielson

I grew up in the Seattle, WA, USA area. I like rock climbing, hanging out with my girls, and online marketing. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey there, my name is Joel Nielson. I'm a 28-year-old lucky husband and proud father of two, and young professional. I grew up in Auburn, Washington. I LOVE the northwest! If I had it my way, I'd live with my family in the wilderness and only worry about what what to eat next and what route we are going to climb next... But I can't seem to convince Kendra (the wife). I don't know... something about our kids turning out weird and being more responsible... For now, I'm pursuing a sales career in Minnesota. I love good design, the power of the internet, and How-To books. I love to mingle with couples our age, have good discussions with "seasoned" people, and skateboard with the neighborhood kids. I am also a Scout Master, who never got his eagle scout! Who would have thought? All in all,I am very fortunate and super grateful to experience the "challenges" that I face as an American.

Why I am a Mormon

Good question. I'm Mormon because the message made sense to me. I knew that if the LDS claim was true, then it was the most powerful, important message in all the world. So I challenged it. I was raised in the church and had always felt the truthfulness of the message as I listened with my heart, but I certainly wasn't going to go spend two years of my life preaching about some mans church. So I made a diligently study of a book I had read many times before, The Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

I just try to do my best every day. That means staying connect with the Lord through sincerely prayer, thoughts, and study of the scriptures. Another key way is showing my wife I love her by helping out without being asked, taking her out on Fridays and attending the temple regularly to remember the covenant I've made with the Lord. Worthily taking the sacrament each week to show that I remember, reverence and am grateful for the Savior's sacrifice, is very important to me. I try to look at each mistake I make as a learning opportunity, and quickly forgive myself and fully repent. I love the Lord. I am humbled that a Perfect being like Him is so interested and patient with me... this is the core motivation driving my faith.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Joel Nielson
Mormons believe in the Bible because it teaches the Gospel of jesus Christ. It teaches the truth. It's a matter of gaining this knowledge for yourself by reading it, praying about it, and listening and feeling what the Lord through his Spirit says about it. This is also how I know The Book of Mormon is true. We also believe that their are other records written by the Lord's prophets of old. He'll bring them forth in His time as he did with the Bible and The Book of Mormon. My experience is that as I immerse myself in true scripture, the feel closer to the Lord. I see and feel my potential. I'm a better husband, father, community member and professional. Mormons believe in the Lord's Gospel, that's why we believe in the Bible because it contains it.
