Hi I'm Chris

I am self-employed. I married my high school sweetheart. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I met my best friend (and now wife) when I was 15. After high school I spent two years in Mexico as a missionary. Shortly after, we were married in Oakland California, near where we are both from. Today we own and operate a small service oriented business. I have a total of nine children. Two are deceased and two were adopted at ages 11 and 12. With a large family there is always an abundance of activity in and out of the home. I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, and supporting my children in their various activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. As a youngster I never considered why I was a Mormon, it was just who I was. During my time in high school I began to realize how important my family was to me. During a time in life when most kids were questioning their parents, I could see that my parents perspective on life was different. Part of that difference was learned by them while dealing with the loss of two of my siblings. They found comfort in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As loving parents they wanted to help me to grow, to learn, and to progress. They are wonderful loving parents. Why wouldn't I want to be like them. Why wouldn't I want to be a father like my own. They taught me that they wanted to be more like another loving parent, our Heavenly Father. That perfect Father, also desires our happiness. He wants us to grow, to learn, and to progress. Learning about Him and His characteristics gives me an opportunity to be a better husband and father. Not perfect, but better than I would otherwise be. Jesus Christ is our Heavenly Fathers perfect Son. He led a life full of service, and example, and love. As one born of Mary, and as the Only Begotten of the Father, having led a perfect life free of sin, uniquely qualify Christ to take upon Him our spiritual burdens. Through His sacrifice, we are able to overcome the affects of death, both spirtual and physical. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same organization that existed when Christ was on the earth. I am a Mormon today because I want to be more like my Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The Mormon chrurch provides that perfect structure for me to see more clearly, as an imperfect father and husband, the big picture.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith daily. Even in my line of work, I try to view it as helping and serving those I do work for. As time has allowed, I have enjoyed volunteering as a coach for my childrens teams. I also enjoy volunteering time with the local scout unit that our congregation sponsors. Until just recently I had spent the last five years working as Bishop, or leader, of our local congregation. It provided a great opportunity to work with wonderful kids, youth, and adults to learn and to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In that capacity I was also able to work with local government and neighbors of a nearby community as several homes, including some from our congragation, were destroyed by a tornado a couple of years ago. It was a small miracle to witness the outpouring of love and service that came as people showed love through service for their fellow man. I am now teaching a Sunday School class of 16 and 17 year old youth.
