Hi I'm John M. Whitney

I am a Technical Manager , a father, Grandfather, outdoorsman and scouter. My name is John and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a Technical Manager for a major Food manufacturer but the things that bring meaning and joy into my life are those things associated with my Church. I enjoy the opportunity of serving with the youth and have had the opportunity to use the talents that God has given me to teach and influence young men and young women. I enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activites such as hunting, backpacking, camping, cycling, and scuba diving to name a few. I also enjoy the hobbies of woodworking and auto mechanics. I have the most beautiful wife who has stood my me for more than 34 years now. We have four children all of whom are now married and raising children of their own and have given us three chilren with three more on the way Life as a Grandparent is fun and exciting.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. In fact many of my ancestors were prominent leaders and members of the church. My family has deep roots in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This does not mean that I do not have a testimony of my own however. In fact, just as my ancestors, I had to know for myself if the doctrine was true or not. I grew up believing that I had a testimony but as I was preparing to go on a mission for the church and was struggling to learn a language, I began to have a more sincere desire to really know for myself. I decided to take the test given in the Book of Mormon by an ancient Prophet. He stated: "when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart , with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." As I prayed, to know for myself, an overwhelming feeling of peace came to my heart and my mind and I knew that the doctrines that I had been taught during my childhood and youth were iindeed true. I am a Mormon because God answered my prayer. I know that this is Christ's church and I find great peace and joy in living his commandments.

How I live my faith

Through the Church, I have been able to work in various capacities all of which were associated with the youth. This has given me the opportunity to provide training and experiences that are helping to build future leaders for the church and the community. I have had the opportunity to work with local and national scouting leaders in developing programs and activities that help build character and confidence and will help the youth to be better prepared in their family life and future careers.
