Hi I'm Monique

I'm from Chandler, Arizona. I'm a teacher and a mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 3 months old. I had 2 older brothers. After that came 7 younger brothers and sisters. I loved growing up in a huge family in a relatively small town. After high school, I started college, but got distracted by marriage and family. When my 2 daughters were 5 and 1 1/2, I went back to school and finished my degree in Elementary Education. I taught 6th grade for 5 years. Right now, I'm taking some time to stay home with my teenage daughters and to try and help my mom care for my dad, who had a stroke a few years ago. I like to scrapbook and do other crafty things. I love to read. My favorite author is Jane Austen. I love to spend time with my husband and daughters, as well as our extended family. My kids adore spending time with all of their cousins!

Why I am a Mormon

As I stated before, my parents joined the LDS church when I was a baby. I grew up learning about our Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness. Family is so important to me, and I appreciate knowing that our family will last forever. As I became an adult and began to make more decisions on my own, I began to see how our Heavenly Father loves his children and blesses us continually. My life has been somewhat typical. We have ups and downs, struggles and successes, difficulties and joy. I have felt the Spirit of the Lord guiding me in both situations. I am grateful for the gift that Jesus Christ gave to mankind as he laid down his life and paid for our sins and suffering. I know that He lives and is our advocate.

How I live my faith

At church, I work with the youth, specifically girls age 12-18. We have classes on Sunday where we learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how to implement it in our lives. On Wednesday nights, we meet together and have activities that will be applicable in our lives. We have cooking classes, do crafts, do service for others, and spend some time with other young people with similar values. One of these activities each month, we meet with the 12-18 year old young men. We usually do a fun activity together, like play kickball, go to the lake, or even go pick the fruit in an older woman's yard for her. It's amazing how much fun teenagers can have when they are picking oranges! I love working in this organization at church! It's wonderful to see how awesome these youth are and to watch them grow!

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

I believe that we can increase our faith in Jesus Christ by learning more about him and trying to follow his example. We look to the scriptures to learn more about Jesus Christ. His life is recorded in the New Testament and we have many of his teachings there. After his resurrection, he visited the people in America and taught them about the gospel too. We can read about this in The Book of Mormon. One principle that we learn in the scriptures is that Charity is the pure love of Christ. When we try to follow the example of Jesus, we show love, kindness, and give service to our fellow men. The times that I have spent serving others are the times I have felt my faith grow the most. If I am constantly worrying about myself and what I need or want, I find that I am less content with my life. Serving others shifts my focus and helps me concentrate on the good in the world.
