Hi I'm Matt
I go to BYU, I come from a family of 8, and love sports. Classic Mormon, right?
About Me
I have four brothers and grew up playing sports, so I love sports. I especially like Wallyball (Volleyball in a racquetball court, where you use walls) and Basketball. Yet I played Tennis and swam in high school, so pick the sport and I like it. I love how our church does church volleyball and basketball. I got cut from the High school team my freshman year, which hurt my athletic pride, yet I still enjoyed church basketball that year and have gotten much better. I tied balloon animals for 8 years now, and love it.
Why I am a Mormon
I like to believe I am an optimist, and our church has the most optomistic veiw of any I know of. Our church believes that nearly no one will go to an eternal hell. We all will go to a kingdom "of glory." We all will be resurected, we all still have agency after death and can still change. We believe we are in a fallen sate but don't have original sin because Adams sins or our parents sins. We are only responsible for our own sins. We believe that god loves us and we are his children, so he has sent a living prophet to lead and guide us. God's work and glory is to "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." We believe that we can be forgiven and have eternal families, and become as god is. I don't think there is any other church that is this optimistic. Yet that is not the only reason I believe. I have recieved witness of the spirit and have read the book of mormon, and have gotten confirmation multiple times that it's true. I have lived by the gospel and as The Gosple of Matthew says "by their fruits ye shall know them." I have only had good fruit from this gosple. I know it is true.
How I live my faith
I live after the manner of happiness, which is to follow Gods commandments, but first and foremost loving god with all my heart might mind and strength. I try and look out for those without friends because they are those whom we can practice true religion on: those that are naked (awkward to be around), hungry (for friends), sick (possibly with a real social or mental disorder), and imprisoned (by societal norms). Helping these people out is the only way a christian can truly practice his religion.Yet there is something to be said about faithfully going to church weekly. This way we not only set aside time daily for god though scripture stud and prayer, but 3 hours weekly to worship God and develop a desire to not hypocritically but honestly out of true intention go and and practice true religion.
