Hi I'm Myra Cooke

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and mother, and have been married for nearly 38 years and we have raised 6 children, 1 son and 5 daughters. I now enjoy this different time in my life being a Grandmother of 14, with more coming, as it was a very busy and full life having a large family to take care of. I was always a stay at home mum and that was my life to look after my husband and children. When I was young I loved going to youth activities, the beach, country dances and movies. I worked mainly as a shop assistant and clerk and even tried nursing, so I was always used to working with people, which I enjoyed.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptised into the church when I was 10 years old with my mother and 2 brothers. My father was already a member and wanted us to join him when he decided to become active at church again. His parents and family joined the church in 1920, learning about it from his mother's sister who joined in 1915, a legacy which I'm very grateful for. It was a new way of life for me and I loved attending the children's classes and activities learning more about my Heavenly Father and Jesus and the gospel principles. I still remember the songs I learnt, that taught me about Them, which I loved singing. Belonging to the church gave me purpose and understanding in my life and values and standards to follow, which laid the foundation of the life I wanted to live to be able to return back to my Heavenly Father and Jesus one day. It was wonderful to know that I was indeed a daughter of Heavenly Father and that I was important to Him. I love my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. It's wonderful to know they live and that I can pray to Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ every day and receive answers through the Holy Ghost. The gospel is a way of life to me and the knowledge and truth I learnt helped me teach my children the correct way to live through the gospel principles. I love the scriptures to continue to learn more truths to help me to always follow the example of my Saviour and to show my gratitude for all He has done for me.

How I live my faith

I have always been active in the church as I grew older which helped me to learn and grow myself. When I was a teenager I taught a children's class in Sunday School, then I taught the youth age in the Young Women programs and even became a leader. After being married and becoming a mother I served in the Women's Auxiliaries for most of the time as a leader or an assistant to other leaders. It helped me learn so much through experiences which also gave me self confidence. I always loved researching my genealogy to compile my family tree too. My husband also shared in this as well and he helped me often and I learnt a lot from him. I worked in our church Family History Centre as an assistant and a Director for a few years when older, so I was able to help others in the church and community with their research, which was very rewarding. I've had many experiences in serving in the church and even though I often felt inadequate to do some things, I was always willing to do the best I could, knowing I was serving my Heavenly Father and also members of the church.
