Hi I'm Blake Atwood

I was home grown in Idaho. I'm a Biochemistry graduate student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now I am attending graduate school working on a PhD doing biomedical research. I am a father of two little boys and husband to a wonderful mother who enjoys staying home and teaching our kids. I enjoy woodworking and have built a number of things to help in furnishing our home. I play the guitar and love finger picking, bluegrass and folk music. I am a plant enthusiast who has filled my home with different exotic plants. My favorite thing to do is try to grow different fruit trees from seeds. Some of my more favorite trees that I have growing include mango, pomegranate and banana palms. We enjoy traveling and have a fun tradition of collecting sand from the various beaches or places we visit. So far we have 8 different bottles of sand from 6 different states.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a Mormon because of the spirit that I have felt with the church. I was born into the church with my parents already being members. My family has been members of the church from early on with many of my family member coming across the United States as pioneers helping to establish the west. So having a family that was strong in the church one might think I choose to follow only because of my family but is not the main reason I choose to be a Mormon. As I have thought about Heavenly Father I cannot imagine he wants to confuse us with his teachings but many people today seem to be confused about his teaching. I undertook to learn his doctrine and learn it how he means it. In learning about him I have studied the words of the Bible but many people disagree on how to interpret many of the passages therein. In continuing my study I have also read the Book of Mormon and listened to the words of the modern day prophets. These words have clarified for me those confusing parts of the Bible. Also as I have read and studied the Bible and the Book of Mormon and have felt the spirit very strong which is a testimony to me that they are the words of God. I have had so many strong spiritual experiences in my studies that I now know that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are the words of God and that we have prophets today that continue to help clarify those things that confuse us. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Gods true church on earth.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by reading from the scriptures daily when possible. I have felt the strong need to teach my children and family the gospel as well. To help my children know and learn of their savior, we strive as a family to read from the scriptures daily and also to pray as a family each night. It fills my heart with joy to hear my three year old son pray to his heavenly father on the behalf of our family. I know and understand the importance of attending church each week and learning and sharing the gospel there. Me and my wife also strive to attend the temple and worship there at least once a month. We also strive to share this wonderful message with our friends and those around us to help them experience the joy we have felt in our family and in our church.
