Hi I'm Charlie

I'm a geologist and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Like I said-I'm a geologist-which means not only do I like studying the planet Earth and collecting rocks and minerals, but I'm pretty much interested in science in general. I like doing stuff outside like hiking and camping, but I also like gardening and building and repairing things. You might say I'm a jack of all trades and master of none- I love to read, pretty much anything of science, nature or history, or as my family says, "reading books with no plot". I like doing jigsaw puzzles and I love to write-I've written six fiction books-never got them published-but writing is a great way to escape from the pressures of the world. I like helping people, but I like to keep quiet about it-that's just the way I am.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a convert to the church- what convinced me was reading the Book of Mormon. I read that book in four days-non-stop. What convinced me was the story of the brother of Jared in the Book of Ether. The part where he prays and sees the finger of the Lord. He has such great faith, the Lord appears to him and tells him that he is Jesus Christ. That really impressed me-I prayed about it and the Holy Ghost told me that the Church is true. All these years later I have a testimony of that book- it is true. I've had many other experiences with living the Gospel and listening to the Holy Ghost. Many miracles in my life-I know that living the Gospel has made me happy and I am so grateful for what the Lord has done for me. It turned my life around.

How I live my faith

On the one hand I could say I do the usual checklist, like say my prayers, study the scriptures, go to church on Sunday--but the real key for me is trying to do some nice things for somebody else each day-hold doors open for people, let somebody else go ahead of me in the bus line, do some errands- put in an honest day's work and then some. Make other lives just a little easier. Just plain be nice, quietly go around, just doing good. So I live each day as if it's my last- if it's not then I can still do good, if it is, I'm not worried about the future.
