Hi I'm David

I live in a small town in north central West Virginia. I am a retired high school mathematics teacher of 32-years.

About Me

I am a retired high school mathematics teacher of 32-years. I am a father of three, a daughter and two sons and have eleven grandchildren.. My main interest is singing folk songs and photography with an emphasis on nature. I also enjoy camping and reading science fiction and fantasy. My wife and I are currently serving a mission for the Church in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission as mission secretary and vehicle coordinator.

Why I am a Mormon

Forty years ago I was agnostic, almost an atheist. Although raised Methodist I had become discouraged with Christianity. I felt there were inconsistencies within the Christian Churches and became convinced that the bible taught good moral principles, but for the most part was a book of mythology. I began teaching in a small high school where I met a teacher who was a Mormon. He introduced me to the missionaries of the Church. As they taught me over the next year these inconsistencies were resolved within the Mormon Church. After much prayer I came to know for myself that Christ's Church had been restored. I now know that Christ has atoned for my sins and that through his sacrifice I can return to my heavenly Father. Perhaps the greatest knowledge is that I can be united with my wife and children for eternity.

How I live my faith

I have served in many different capacities within the Church. Currently I am serving a full time mission in the mission office of the Georgia Atlanta North Mission. I particularly enjoy teaching the Gospel and reading and studying the scriptures. We are encouraged in being involved with our communities. I have served 4-years as Mayor of my small town and 7-years on the town council for a total of 11-years. Our town has had a celebration on the Fourth of July for many years and I have worked with the committee that has planned and put on that celebration. Being on this committee gives me an opportunity to work with other members of the my community. For many years before starting our mission in February, 2015, my wife and I went to 3 nursing homes each month where I played guitar and we sang folk and gospel songs with the residents. Folk music has been a passion of mine for most of my life. Unfortunately essential tremors and arthritis has greatly limited my guitar playing but we both still love to sing and share the gospel through song.
