Hi I'm Jerry

I am a husband, father and grandfather. I am a registered nurse. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived primarily in the Western United States. I spent my growing up years in Washington State. I played basketball in High School and was able to continue my education through scholarships gained from my abilities. Eventually, I served a mission in Brazil. It was during my time serving a mission that I met my eventual wife. She served in Portugal. I enjoyed the opportunity to serve in Southern Brazil and would eventually like to return to visit the areas in which I served. I continued my basketball career after returning home and getting married. I married my wife in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1990. It was the best thing that I have done in my life. IN 1992 we moved to Arizona where we have been ever since. We spent about 7 years living at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. What an opportunity to see some of the beauties of this world just a few short minutes from your front door. I went back to school and obtained a Bachelors degree in Nursing. It was after the completion of my degree that we moved from the mountains to the desert in Arizona. We have lived in Mesa since 1998. I have worked primarily in the Emergency Room setting in hospitals and enjoy the chances that I get to help others who are sick or injured. I have 7 children, 5 girls and 2 boys. They bring joy to my life each and every day. Recently we added our first grandchild. I look forward to spoiling him as much as possible. We try hard to spend as much time together as a family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I went to church each week with my family, participated in the activities of the church and had a great group of friends that were also members of the church. We always did things together as friends and to this day I still consider these individuals as my closest and dearest friends. I believe that I gained a testimony for myself after deciding to serve a mission. I believe that it was during one of the very first discussions that I participated in with an investigator that I became converted to the Gospel for myself and no longer neded to rely on the testimonies of others to support my faith. I do know that Joseph Smith was foreordained to restore the gospel on the earth in these the latter days. I know that he saw God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ as he describes in his testimony. I know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon through the gift and Power of God. The Book of Mormon is another testiment of Jesus Christ. A record of prophets living on the American Continent. This book supports the words of the Bible. It is a guide for us, to assist us to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that we are led today by a prophet of God. His name is Thomas S Monson. He leads and guides the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by prophesy and revelation. I truely believe this to be true. As I have listened to his counsel and tried to apply these things I have been blessed and had my testimony strengthened. I pray that my kids will listen to our prophet, that they will read and come to an understanding of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and that they will gain thier own testimony of the truthfullness of the gospel. I believe that without this conviction and with out the knowledge that I have that I would be lost and not be the individual that I am today. The gospel provides me the strength to do much. It gives me the desire to serve those around me.

How I live my faith

I serve in the callings that the Lord has provided to me. I have had many different opportunities to serve in the wards in which I live. I currently lead a group of 28 men. These men come from many different walks of life and they bring a great amount of experience to the church. I assist in teaching gospel lessons to them on Sundays . I also help in providing and setting up service opportunities to these men and thier families. I have also taught children and youth. I have served in leadership roles wihin the branches and wards that I have lived in. I enjoy the challenges that this has brought to me. It has helped me learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and that He does love me. I make sure that my family has the opportunity to serve in the church and in our community. We make visits to the less fortunate, we take assignments to assist in the cleaning of our church building. We also attend our church meetings each week. We attend other wards when not in our home ward. We try each week to have our Family Home Evenings. This is an opportunity to teach each other the Gospel. Our children take turns preparing and giving gospel lessons and we always finish those lessons with a testimony and our feelings about the topic being shared.
