Hi I'm Steve

I'm an Aussie with a beautiful wife and cute kid and...I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love my Australian heritage; the sport, the freedom and the landscape. I'm a HR Consultant for a major organisation which allows me to travel the State and meet a variety of people. I have a wife and young son who loves adventure (and food). My wife's family is from New Zealand and have tried to persuade him with All Blacks gifts but with his Wallabies jumpsuit, I think we're winning at the moment.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. Some might say that didn't really give me much of a choice but it did. I went to a school with around 2000 students with only 5 of us being members of the church (one was my brother). My parents were and still are devoted members of the church and although they didn't seem to have much worldly wealth, they seemed generally happy with their lives. Most of my friends weren't members of our faith and had very different standards although still good people. As I started to spend a lot of my time from the ages 15 - 17 with them, I realized there was something still missing in my life. I knew that I needed to decide whether to live the principles taught in the church and in my home or live the varying standards that society taught. I decided that the only way to know whether the principles taught by the church were true, was to put them to the test. If they say God answers prayers, then I was going to pray and see if he answered them. If Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, then I was going to see if God would tell me that for himself. So that's what I did, I began to read the Book of Mormon every night before I went to sleep. I prayed every night and morning asking God if the Book of Mormon was His word written by His prophets. A week went by without a clear answer, however I noticed that everything in life was starting to fall into place for me, I was graduating High School soon and needed a full-time job, one that interested me at that time was presented to me on a silver platter. I didn't have the best grades at school and needed a miracle to be accepted into University. That miracle came. Then, it hit me! I began to know for myself that God lives and He is my Heavenly Father. He knows me and loves me. I felt an awesome sense of confidence and peace, that I could overcome any obstacles that I have in life. Just like my earthly dad, he wants the best for me and wants me to be happy.

How I live my faith

These days I organize activities for teenage boys aged 14-15. We go hiking, camping and do practical activities every Tuesday night to help them develop life skills like resume writing, cooking, brick laying and lots of sports. I love being with the boys. I've learnt a lot from them (especially how unfit I've become). On Sundays I get the opportunity to teach the same boys lessons from the scriptures, the Bible, Book of Mormon and others (including words from present day prophets). I want them to know for themselves, the same way I did, that they have a real Father in Heaven and that he knows them. I know that with that knowledge any obstacles or challenges life throws at them, will be made easier to overcome. they'll know that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to bear the heavy burdens and carry them through the hardest of trials.
