Hi I'm Scott

I'm a Singer-Songwriter; I love books; and I am a Mormon.

About Me

Since I was little, growing up in Ontario Canada, my sisters would have me learn songs and sing for them. It started as boy bands and Disney songs and evolved eventually into my own music. I love to talk, and perform and almost anything to do with the arts. I served a mission in Tucson Arizona and I fell in love with the desert climate! Happily where I live in Canada it's warmer or I probably would have frozen solid when I came home (I'm almost used to it again... 2 years later :) ). I am now in my second year at Queen's University studying to become a highschool Drama and English teacher. Queen's is the most beautiful place in the fall, though I may be a bit biased! I love my family (My Parents, 3 sisters and a brother) and I love to learn. Oh and i love to read :)

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon partly because of the descision of my parents joining the church when they were in their early 20's and raising me in it and mostly because I've read the Book of Mormon and prayed. I grew up in a place where there aren't a lot of members of the church (I was one of only a few 'mormons' in a highschool of over 1300 students) and so it would've been really easy to go another way if i had wanted to. But following Christ and living the way that He has asked me to makes me happy. I love learning from living Prophets and the Scriptures, gives me more support and encouragement on hard days, and more happiness on the good days. When something bothers me i open the pages of the Book of Mormon or the Bible and find counsel. I felt it was true when i was little and i came to know it was true through finding it out myself when i grew older.

How I live my faith

In highschool i had my hand in every activity i could. i was in the student government, i was on the rugby team, i started an improv team that competed against other schools, i worked at a scout camp for 3 summers (climbing wall and rappelling), and i was on a youth advisory counsel for the community foundation of the city where i live (it gives grants to school for projects of betterment or 'going green'). It seemed that i was running around trying to do everything (which is the way i like it so it was awesome). I love to be active and to help; at church i loved helping with the dances and just before my mission i was called to be the president of the missionary work for my Young Single Adult Branch. I got to work with the missionaries and try to help people come to Christ. When i was younger i had the opportunity to be the president of the group of young men and help to organize our activities. And aside from the 'things' that i do i just try to live well and be happy. To brigthen up someone's day or to be there when someone needs a bit of a lift. I think the Best way to Be Christ-like is to do it all the time.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Faith in Jesus Christ helps in every relationship, because the more we act like Christ 1 the more likeable we become 2 the better we understand, trust, and love other people and 3 the more focussed on what we can do for others rather than ourselves. Faith in the Saviour leads us to every other good principle and characteristic that we could want or that we would want to base our families off of. If we trust the Saviour and He can Trust us then we start on the road to fixing problems, building lasting friendships and a happy life, marriage and family. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I know that God is there. Anyone who really wants to know if He's there can. When you go somewhere quiet, read the scriptures and think about whether they're true you'll feel something. Then when you kneel down and pray (which might feel kind of silly at first) and ask if He is there, you'll know it as you sit and listen to your thoughts and to your heart. -- That's how I know that there is a God. But i can feel that He's there through the help of a friend (when they didn't even know that I needed it that day), the love of my fmaily and through the beauty, order and complexity of Nature! It's amazing and i love it. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

We can't increase our Faith by doing nothing that's for sure. It would be like trying to learn how to swim on your living room couch. We need to do the Will, and live the Doctrine of our Heavenly Father (like the Saviour taught in John). Basically, we have to do the things that we know are right; We need to read the scriptures and apply the teachings into our lives. We need to pray for it! If we want more Faith we need someone who is Perfect to help us. Then we need to go on living our lives, trusting that the Lord is guiding us. The act of doing the right things and living the right way, daily, will build up our Trust in the Lord's promises that will support us through the dryspells. Gratitude for what we have qualifies us for more of what we need. Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

You become a member of the church by being baptized and confirmed by the proper priesthood authority. Which basically means by and through the way prepared by the Saviour which He restored, through living prophets, to this church. The missionaries' purpose is to help people on their path to conversion (which is a change of heart not just a change in religion) so if you have more questions the missionaries are deffinitly the right people to talk to about that. To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

The Church grows because it's True. When people have experiences with the church they can feel that it is. The Church will continue to grow because God wants to bless all of His children throughout the world, and that is what His Church is for. Show more Show less
