Hi I'm Jay

From Pennsville, NJ. I play guitar, sing, and piano. I try to always live by "Here am I, send me." & "Come what may and love it."

About Me

My name is Jonnie. People call me Jay for short. I am 19 years old and I work at a truck stop as the overnight shift manager. I am a singer, writer, guitar player, piano player, and a Mormon. I have an exotic piercing in my right ear and two tattooes that act as permanent bracelets. I am accepted for who I am in this chruch.

Why I am a Mormon

A week after my birthday in January of 2011 I was kicked out of my home. I didnt have anything. I packet up my blanket and some favorite books, my pillow, and whatever clothes that I could grab. I lived out of my car. Finally I saved enough money to get a hotel room. And I lived in three different hotels. Every few weeks I would change hotels because of high prices. The room would always take my entire pay check. My car broke down and now I dont have a car. I was a cutter relapsed from rehab, very big drug dealer and also a junkie. I took everything from pills to weed to coke and heroin to just smoking cigarettes. My life was just comming to an end. I didnt know if I was going to overdose and die or just die of a broken heart. Then the missionaries came. Someone I knew sent them to my hotel room. I opened my door and listened to their lesson. I remember perfectly being really rude and mean to these two men who were so nice. They didnt judge me. They knew I was a troubled soul that just needed some help. Slowly and steadily I went through withdraw and eventually quit drugs cold turkey. I even quit cigarettes. I no longer cut my body or scar it with tattoos. There was even a family in the church who came to me and asked me to move in with them. So I now live with them and they have become my family. My mom and dad. They are the answer to my prayers that I have been begging since I was a small child. God blessed me with so many things I couldnt never be humble enough. Becoming so close to someone isnt somthing that I usually do. I have had an abusive upbringing, abusive boyfriends, and rehab was not a pleasure vacation. When I was eight years old my cousin actually raped me. Something I must face everyday. I have had My life has changed so much because I have the gospel and I encourage everyone to read, ponder, and pray and learn for themselves what God can do for them. Maybe one day my testimony will be able to help others who are in need of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by telling as many people I can about the gospel or "good news" of Jesus Christ. I sing in my ward's choir and I also try and play the piano for primary. I serve others as much as I can and as frequently as I can. Inviting people to church is my favorite thing to do. It is very hard though. There are many people who do not accept me simply because I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I say unto anyone who has experienced this that you are not alone!! Also, that I am NOT ashamed. I do not regret the choices that I made to be baptized and recieve the Holy Ghost. I do not regret the road that I had to take to get to where I am today. I live my life by the words of wisdom, and always remember to have Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Recieving of the Holy Ghost, and to ALWAYS...ENDURE TO THE END!

What is the First Vision?

The first vision is actually where I gained truth in all of this. The missionaries had been coming around and teaching me a few things and I began reading the Book of Mormon and praying and asking if it were true. I wasnt really getting any answers. So I was told to continue to pray and keep reading. It was hard but the missionaries came over one day and told me to open my mind and open my heart. As I did, they shared with me Joseph Smith's first vision In the spring of 1820, Joseph went to a grove of trees near his home and prayed to learn which church he should join. In answer to his prayer, Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him. Joseph wrote “When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” When I opened my eyes I was crying. It was then that I knew that all of this was true. One Elder asked me if I felt different and I did. Then he asked me if I knew what that feeling was. He told me that it was the Spirit and that he could feel it too because it filled the room. Never have I ever felt that way. I will always know that the Book of Mormon is true. I will always know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I will always know that everything about the church is true. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Something so special to me is that God knows us. Each and every one of us-by name. And He knows what is in our hearts. Simply by talking to Him through prayer we can know our Heavenly Father. He does answer all of our prayers. We just need to understand that "No" and "You're not ready yet" are answers. Haha. Also that we are talking to a real person. Heavenly Father made us in His image. So he is a real person. And I find comfort in knowing that. Reading the scriptures and studying them to know them also brings us closer to Father. When He sees us do those things He is proud of us. When He sees us helping others and spreading his gospel His angels sing for us. I am so greatful to have a Father like Him. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe happens after we die?

We believe that when we die our Spirit is no longer confined by a body and that our Spirit goes to the spirit world. In this spirit world we teach people who hadnt the chance to hear the gospel or those who didnt accept Jesus Christ into thier life before. The woman who has been so nice to me when I began all of this invited me into her home. Eventually I called her mom. She was in every aspect my mom. She took care of me and treated me right. On July 23, 2011 she died. It was very hard for me to accept. I was angry and confused. "How could God bless me with the family I never had and then take it away?" I was sitting with the missionaries that day at the church and began to cry. They didnt say anything. They were upset as well. As I cried I prayed. I said "God, if there is a God, please help me. I need to know if there really is a spirit world and Heaven. Please send me some kind of sign." I opened my eyes to see a tiny blue butterfly sitting on my hand. Butterflies are not trusting. It is very unusual for them to land on people. However, this butterfly crawled on my hand and flew around me and landed on my shirt, played in my hair and comforted me. I told an Elder that it was going to touch all of us. He didnt believe me because he knew that butterflies are not accepting. It did. it went and touched both the elders and then came back to me. it was amazing and I promis to never again lose faith and I will always trust in God. He gives us struggles so that we may be strong. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

There are many ways to know if it is true. Praying is the way that I found out. Study the scripture. Read the book of Mormon and pray for knowledge. He will answer your prayer. If you have an open heart and mind you will find that when you read and pray that you feel different. You feel the spirit of God. Follow that feeling and you will know. Show more Show less
