Hi I'm JD

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm a retired beach bum from Southern California who now lives and works in the Midwest as a professor at one of the universities in town. Most importantly, I am a husband and the father of three boys. I enjoy doing things with my family especially outdoor activities such as camping, biking, geocaching, and traveling to discover new adventures. Oh, and of course, we love to get back to the beach when we can.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, baptized when I was 8, went to church weekly with my family, and had a blast participating in many church activities. However, it was not until preparing to serve a mission that I gained my own personnel testimony of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This witness came as I was seeking to know for myself that all I learned growing up was true. I needed to know if the Book of Mormon was true…if Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God through which the Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored…if there was a living prophet on the earth today…that Jesus Christ did atone for my sins…that God lives and this is His church. Following the admonition in the Book of Mormon, I asked “…God the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are true...” During that prayer, warm feelings engulfed me and spoke to my spirit such that I know all that I was praying about was true! This is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Living my faith brings me joy, happiness, and peace. I do my best to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Service to one another is a big part of being a Latter-day Saint and I try to incorporate that into my daily life. I hope that my choices and actions testify of my belief in Christ.
