Hi I'm Melanie

I love hiking, swimming, playing card games, and singing. I'm a bookworm and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In high school I was very shy. Only my friends knew the real me. However, I loved to help classmates understand the various assignments. Whenever I didn't have to particularly pay attention in school, I would read. My favorite books are science fiction, fantasy, and manga. Besides reading, I LOVE to sing. I usually get a song or two stuck in my head and will hum them all day long, even at work! One day I hope to be able to sing opera. Though I may look small, I like to show off my endurance and stamina by working, cleaning, or helping people move for hours on end.

Why I am a Mormon

ONE of the main reasons I am a Mormon is the way I was raised. My parents showed me through their actions what it meant to be a Mormon. However, through my own experiences, thinking, and much prayer I decided for myself to be a Mormon. I grew up reading the Book of Mormon and feeling happy in my house. My family did not always get along together and we still have arguments and problems today, but, even my friends could feel something special when they came over. I now know that this special feeling is the Spirit of Christ in our home.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is becoming more and more difficult in today's world. Some faiths are debased and mocked. Others are blocked or ignored. I live my faith simply; my actions, my words, my thoughts all reflect in a way that would not make me feel guilty if the Savior stood beside me. I have helped my church in many different ways. We have a lay ministry (no one is paid) and I accept any callings or responsibilities extended to me. I have been on the presidency for the young women of the church. I direct youth night meetings and help orchestrate fun activities. Currently, I am a teacher in Relief Society, a women's organization in the church. Every third Sunday I prepare a lesson to teach specifically to the women. I have been in church choirs for years and have even helped conduct musical numbers. I love to help and serve in any way for the church because it helps the other members grow closer to Christ through my service.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

For me personally, the biggest testament that God exists is that I wake up in the morning, drive to work everyday, and perform the same tasks, but I am happy. Even if I am tired, or I stubbed my toe, or someone was rude to me while driving, I am able to smile at the people around me and let go of the harsh aspects of life. Somehow, I have found peace in my soul and I can feel it whenever, wherever i am. Besides this internal happiness, I look at the world around me. How did someone think to carry data on a small stick? Or that computers didn't have to be the size of a room? Or that huge hunks of metal could fly through the air? Something had to have impressed our minds. This small yet miraculous wonders prove to me there is a God. Show more Show less
