Hi I'm Jessica

I grew up in Las Vegas, I'm the youngest mother of two in my peer group who didn't have a teen pregnancy.

About Me

I have 2 kids and I am 25 years old. Most of my friends and peer group think it's crazy that I am even married this young, let along a mother of two, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I am married to my best friend. I met him when I was 18, waited for him to serve a mission in Argentina and got married to him when I was 21. I had my first baby, a boy when I was 22 years old and my second baby, a girl at 24 years old. I am a registered nurse but I am not currently working because I stay at home with my children while my husband is getting his law degree. It is actually a controversial decision where I live to be a stay-at-home mom when I could be working. But I know that there is no more important work than what is done within the walls of my home: teaching and nurturing my children. There is no greater joy then seeing my children grow and develop and having a supportive and respectful husband by my side. I love to swim, run, hike and ballroom dance. I am trying to learn how to cook and learn how to be creative in developing activities and crafts for my kids and in planning dates for my husband and me. Ever since I was a small child, I always wanted to be a mother when I grew up, and now that I am, I couldn't be happier with my "career path".

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were already members of the Mormon church. For a long time I relied on their testimonies and their knowledge of this church and trusted that they were leading me in the right way. When I was a teenager my mother became very sick with a chronic illness that she had for a long time but this relapse was a particularly tough one. I was 16 years old and I felt like the pressure of the whole world was suddenly put on my shoulders. I was a scholar athlete, I had a full time job, and I had many church responsibilities and suddenly I was placed in a position to take care of my very sick mother, younger siblings, and my father who also needed my help and strength in dealing with this difficult situation. Things were very hard for a long time, there were several times where I felt that my family would fall apart and I wondered if I would fall apart. I felt like the burden placed on my shoulders was too heavy and I couldn't understand in my teenage mind why Heavenly Father would do this to me. I had always tried my best to be obedient to the commandments of God and I felt like I didn't deserve this particular challenge. What I didn't realize was that I was receiving this trial because my Heavenly Father loved me and he wanted me to grow and gain my own testimony of Him. One night when I felt that I couldn't go on anymore, I kneeled in my bed and I prayed to Heavenly Father. In my prayer I told Heavenly Father that I was starting to doubt whether He was there because I couldn't understand why He was doing this to me. In my prayer I asked my Father in Heaven if He was real. At the end of my prayer I felt a burning in my heart and in my mind a knew knowledge that I was a daughter of God, Heavenly Father was real, and He loved me came into my mind with such force that I could not deny that it was true. My trial didn't go away immediately, but I was able to continue with faith because I knew that I had a Heavnely Father who loved me.

How I live my faith

Because I know that Heavenly Father is real, and that His son, Jesus Christ atoned for my sins I do my best to live the way that I believe they want me to live. I know that they want me to be a mother and have a strong loving family. So I read the scriptures with my children and husband every day and teach them to pray to Heavenly Father and have faith in Jesus Christ. We have a special Family Home Evening on Monday nights where we learn a lesson about the scriptures and have a fun activity and eat a treat. We often have family activities where we enjoy each others company. Both my husband and I serve actively in our church congregation. I am the leader of the women's organization in my congregation and help the women to strengthen their own families, serve the community, and increase in their own faith in God. I read my scriptures daily and pray sincerely so that I can always keep my testimony strong. I try to stay sensitive to the feelings and impressions that come to me from Heavenly Father through the Holy Ghost to help and serve others and act on them. I do whatever I can to serve God because I am so grateful that I have an eternal family who will be with me forever because I was sealed in the temple to them and because I have a Savior, Jesus Christ who atoned for my sins.
