Hi I'm Larry

I grew up in Southern California. I currently live in Minnesota. I'm a project manager for a software company. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of five, three boys and two girls. Four of our five children are married and are living across the United States and the youngest is in high school, living at home. I am a grandfather of eight beautiful fun loving grandchildren, four boys and four girls. I started working in the retail grocery industry when I was 16 as a courtesy clerk and worked my way through the ranks in the stores up to Store Director, then as a District Manager, a Category Manager, Director of Merchandising and Planning and finally as a Director of Pricing. I now work for a price optimization software company that works with grocery chains as well as other retailers as a project manager. I love sports, enjoy spending time with wife, family and granchildren, enjoy traveling and seeing new places and looking for opportunities to serve and help others.

Why I am a Mormon

I met my wife over thirty-five years ago in high school in a physiology class, while we were dissecting a cat, but we didn't date until after we had graduated. We began dating and shortly after her mother said that she continue to date me unless I went to church with them. I had been raised attending the Lutheran church every Sunday and church was not unfamiliar to me, so I went. My very first meeting was the first Sunday of the month, which is Fast & Testimony meeting. I found this to be very interesting and I was amazed that so many people were willing to get up in front of everyone and share their personal experiences and testimonies. I felt the Spirit that day and to this day Fast & Testimony meetings are among my favorite meetings, as I am still touched by the Spirit and uplifted as others share their gospel experiences and personal testimonies. We began to date regularly and had a standing date on Friday nights, one particular Friday she seemed a bit nervous and when I asked her what she wanted to do, she said that there was an Open House at the church that night and she was afraid to ask me to go as she thought I might say 'no'. I decided that I just wanted to spend time with her, so we went to the Open House. When we arrived at the church we were met by two missionaries who gave us a tour of the building, openly talked about Jesus Christ and unbeknown to me taught me the first three discussions that night. They asked me if I wanted to continue to learn more about the Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that they would set up some meetings at the home of my wife each week, if I would like. I was very interested as the things which they taught made sense to me, filled gaps in what I had been taught in confirmation classes, made me feel good as I felt the Spirit and answered many questions that I had about where I came from, why I was here and what was the purpose of our lives. I was later baptized a member of the Church after completing the discussions.

How I live my faith

Since joining the Church over thirty years ago, I have had the opportunity to grow and learn in my understanding and knowledge of my Heavenly Father's plan for me. I have been able to have the opportunity to work with and serve side by side with many members of the Church across the United States, as we have moved eleven times to six different states. I have made friends in every city we have lived and now have friends that I love and respect who have helped to make me who I am today. I have been able to work with and learn from teaching small children, youth, young adults, adults both young and old by associating with them in not only classroom settings, but as we worked hand in hand on many types of projects in helping others within our communities and within the Church. I have been able to visit members both active and not actively attending church meetings and not only become their friend, but to learn from them, recieve guidance and life experiences and also help them in times of happiness and life's stifes. I have been able to help plan activities of all kinds for children to adults, for individual age groups to entire families. I have learned that my family is the most important thing and as the world changes that we always have the love and support of each other, no matter where you live. I have learned how to keep my family together and strong as we have little children, as they grow to teenagers and as they leave home to start their own families. I have learned that families continue and that as my children marry my family just becomes larger. I have learned that I am an example even when I'm not trying to be, that people notice what I do and how I live my life. That people can see the happiness in my life that comes from living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I try to live my faith each day of my life at home, at work, with my family, my neighbors, my friends, my co-workers and everyone I meet each day in what I say, how I treat them and whatever I do.
