Hi I'm Colleen

I'm a wife, a mom, a business owner, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a family with eight children and I was number four. I met my husband while in college and have three boys. I own a dance studio and enjoy teaching and working with youth of all ages. I enjoy physical activity and try each year to accomplish some sort of physical challenge. I love to read.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Well, for starters I was born into the church. When I was a high school freshman I received my "first" testimony of the Book of Mormon and prayer. These two separate experiences helped carry me through the teenage years. To some extent I probably took for granted growing up in a home with the church influence. When I left for college I attended a church school where my testimony continued to grow by attending religion classes, church, activities and making new friends with high standards. While in college I found several opportunities where I sincerely needed or wanted direction from a higher authority. My relationship with my Savior deepened as I relied on the Holy Ghost to lead me. After marriage and early childhood rearing years life continued to present opportunities and choices where I found myself on my knees pleading with my Heavenly Father for guidance and support. Those opportunities only seem to increase in number with every passing year. While answers to my prayers are not always what I expect or when I want them my dependance on the Holy Ghost continues to increase with my age. I look at my family, my friends, my neighbors, my city, my country, and the "world" around me and I see and sense chaos. I see it as very easy to get lost and to be on an endless merry-go-round to try to find happiness. My days are not perfect, my life is not necessarily easy, but I find great comfort in my testimony. My testimony is really made from combined experiences, events, feelings, research and an evergrowing amount of personal experiences that tell me that Jesus Christ lives and that He loves me. My Father in Heaven has a plan for me. He knows everything and by doing what he wants me to do and by following his commandments he will reveal his plan for me. This brings me such great comfort so that I can use my time and energy in pursuing that which is good.

How I live my faith

I continually strive to live my faith in all my roles. In my relationship with my husband and children I always try to remember that I am sealed to them for eternity. I am not on the fast-track or short cut route with them. We are in this together and my responsibility is to create a home where we all learn and grow in the gospel. I want to return to my Heavenly Father with my family. I teach dance in my business. While I have a lot of interaction with youth of all ages, my primary focus is I want them to feel something different when they are around me. I want them to know that I believe in them as individuals and that I care about them inside and outside of the studio. When they leave I want them to crave the joy they felt when they were at the studio. Obviously I interact with these children's parents as well. The feelings that I have for the youth expand to the families. I want them to know that I really want to make this world a better place. I have served in my church in teaching lessons, giving talks, presenting and facilitating group discussions. I arrange service opportunities for me and my family to give to those in need so that we can better recognize our own blessings. I try to remember that everyone is a child of God. We all come from different places and when I interact with people I try to treat them as my Savior would if he were here.
