Hi I'm Bob Lathen

I have lived in several western states. I love the outdoors. I am very grateful to be a member of the LDS church!

About Me

I love life. I have been richly blessed with a sweet and supportive wife and four wonderful children. I come from a large family that included my parents and six boys. All of my brothers and I have wonderful families that are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We love to get together and play Rook, or tennis, or fish or swim or just hang out. I am a CPA and am particularly familiar with corporate tax planning. I will soon be retiring, mostly by force due to layoffs in my company. We are prepared for this kind of set-back, mostly because we have listened to our modern prophets that have taught us to avoid debt, live modestly and save for retirement or for emergencies. With retirement, I will be working out more (even taking up Zumba dancing) and doing more service for others. All along I have done a lot of charitable work/fun with the Boy Scouts. I love to hike and to explore in the Colorado mountains. On these journeys, I like to fish streams and lakes where others do not wish to venture and to enjoy the scenery and the closeness to nature and to my God. My sweet wife and I have a few grand children. Visiting our children and our grand children has been and will continue to be a huge delight for us.

Why I am a Mormon

My father joined the LDS church as young adult and he and my mother gained strong testimonies of Jesus Christ and the restored Church of Jesus Christ over a long period of time. For me, I always felt I had been blessed to grow up with the truth and that I belonged to the Church that God wanted me to be in. When I read the Book Of Mormon for the first time with a serious desire to know if it was true or not (at age 18), I had special feelings come to me from the Holy Spirit that convinced me that this book and the Church it related to and it's founding prophet Joseph Smith were all true. I had prayed many nights to gain this testimony that is now very strong. This testimony came in time for me to then serve a mission in Ireland where at the ages of 19-21 I knew that I was called of God to teach the truths I had been learning and that what I was about as a missionary was correct and would bless the lives of all those who would embrace the truths I was now teaching. Being a member of what I believe and testify is the Lord's one true church on this earth, the one that can lead me to find my full purpose in life, means everything to me!

How I live my faith

I love to search the scriptures, the Bible and book of Mormon in particular. I have taught our youth many times about them. As a Boy Scout leader, I have also had the great opportunity to teach our young men many outdoor skills and how the outdoors fits into God's plans for them as individuals. I love to sing , but I am so bad at it that at church I try to tone it down (my 8th grade choir teacher had me go play basketball, a favorite sport of mine, instead of sing). I enjoy teaching basic gospel principles to others in class room settings or in talks at church, and I love to do so because I feel like I am being an instrument in God's hand to help others understand why they are here on this earth, and what shall be in the future and how Jesus Christ can cleanse and even sanctify them. This cleansing has been especially important to me becasue those who know me know that I am far from perfect and therfore I have a great need for forgiveness which is made possible because my Savior already paid the price for my sins if I will just humbly accept him and try to improve.
