Hi I'm Dana

I'm a wife and stay at home mother of 6 kids. I love serving others at home and abroad. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being a wife and mother of 6 kids. My life is typical of most moms. I get up, take care of my family and home, and find each day is full of more "to dos" than I have time "to do". On good days, I even get to get to bed on the same day that I woke up! One of the most amusing things people would say to me when they discovered I was a stay at home mom was, "Oh you are so lucky! You get to be at home with your children." My first thought was always, "Luck? This isn't luck. It's a choice." What they didn't realize was that I had a Master's degree and a great career that I chose to leave so I could be an at home mom. When I quit, I thought our income was cut in half, but later realized we cut our income by 2/3rds. This choice has been both challenging and wonderful. Heavenly Father has blessed us with so many wonderful experiences with our children. Over the years, that missing income, was replaced with greater blessings and greater income than if I kept working. I am forever grateful we made that decision. I also love to travel. In my mind, the questions is not "do I want to go?", but "when can we go?" I love meeting new people and seeing new places. I always come home inspired and determined to be a better person. Another passion is serving. One of my favorite things to do at home or when travelling abroad is to find a way to serve others. It is a great way to connect with people all over the world and to make the world a little bit better.

Why I am a Mormon

People often say that I am a Mormon just because my parents raised me to be a Mormon. While they did do a great job teaching me the gospel throughout my life, the reality is that each person must determine if they really believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is really Christ's church on the earth today. I learned for myself that it is. For me, that knowledge that came when I read the Book of Mormon in high school. I wanted to better understand my Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, so I started to read the Book of Mormon daily and I prayed about what I read. As I read, I felt filled with light and the love of my Heavenly Father. Over time, I knew that this book wasn't just another book some person wrote. This really was scripture, just as the Bible is scripture. It was written by Prophets in ancient times, but it was written with the purpose of being a blessing in our lives, right now, today and everyday. I had a hard time wanting to put the book down. I came to know that I have a Father in Heaven who loves us so much that He allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to come to earth to atone for each one of us, and that Christ is my personal Savior. When I read the Book of Mormon, my days went better. I felt spiritually stronger as I went through each day of high school and I better understood how my Heavenly Father wanted me to live, and in a way that would provide the most opportunities for happiness. I still read the Book of Mormon everyday and I still love how I feel when I read this book. Even though I have read it several times, the Book of Mormon still helps me feel the love of my Heavenly Father and Savior and it helps me answers different questions in my life. I feel so blessed to have the words of Christ recorded by ancient prophets in the Book of Mormon and Bible. I am grateful for our living, modern day prophet who leads and guides us today, just as carefully and clearly as Moses lead the people of Israel to a better life.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite parts of living the gospel is serving others. Every time, I have been asked to serve in church callings, I have felt inadequate and unqualified. However, as I have accepted those calls, I have witnessed the Lord magnify any effort I made, been taught by others I have served with and developed new talents. I have learned to LOVE serving others. Whenever and wherever I serve, I feel our Heavenly Father's love for those I am serving. His love is profound and palpable. The days I have had to stretch myself out of my comfort zone and serve others have been some of my happiest days. Currently, I serve as the Stake Young Women's President. I felt so inadequate to serve 12 different Young Women leaders and young women ages 12-18. However, I have realized that each calling I had been given over the years have prepared me to serve right now in this calling. And again, I have witnessed the Lord magnify any talents and time we give to work miracles. I know Heavenly Father helps us to serve others, no matter our abilities. Serving in the church does take some time, but it is important to serve others as we can. For 15 years, my life revolved around being a mother at home all day with my children. At one time, 5 of our 6 children were at home during the day and I knew I couldn't help in my son's school class. I enjoyed being at home with my children full time. Now that they are all in school, I volunteer teaching Health lessons in my children's classes each month. I teach the students how to make better daily health choices, give their teachers a break, brush up on my professional skills, share my talents and education and still get to be a full time at home mom. It's a win for everyone. As a family, we enjoy serving others when we travel. It is a great experience to give to others who may live in less fortunate circumstances. I have found that no matter what or where the opportunity is, serving others is a great joy!
