Hi I'm Richard

I'm a Kiwi but I live in Australia. I'm married with six great kids. I love my life and I am a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Richard, I am a husband to Karen, dad to five daughters and one son, and "grandpa" to eight grandchildren at last count. I am a business owner. We specialise in IT training, digital literacy and certification. I love my job because of the difference I see in peoples lives when they realise they can achieve their goals and take advantage of new opportunities. I enjoy sport but I'm not that good at playing any myself. I love life and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church after my mother listened to the missionaries who knocked on her door in Cape Town, South Africa. She investigated the church for more than two years. After much prayer, fasting and study she was baptised and became a member of the church. As a consequence I was taught about Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father from an early age and like many children enjoyed listening to and reading bible stories. My mother took great care to teach us sound principles that would help us enjoy a happy life and avoid mistakes that would make our lives unhappy. When I was eleven years old I became vitally interested in the Book of Mormon. I had a Sunday School teacher who encourged us to read and study and find out for ourselves if the Book of Mormon was true. It was hard for me but as I read I just knew what I was reading was true. I have since studied, pondered, prayed and examined the Book of Mormon at length. It is inconcievable to me that any man could have written that book without divine assistance. In my work life I have travelled the world extensively and everywhere I go I have met wonderful people, dedicated loving parents and beautiful children. Regardless of culture, creed or religion I have come to appreciate that we are all children of a Heavenly Father who loves us and wants the best for each of us and to me the Gospel of Jesus Christ as found in the church delivers what is best and what will make us happy. The gospel clearly explains Heavenly Fathers plan for us, provides us the guidence of a living prophet, priesthood authority for the ordinances of salvation, temple ordinaces including eternal marrige and the sealing of families, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, living apostles, revelation and scripture for our day and so much more than is to be found elsewhere. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday by remembering to ask myself "what would Jesus do"? Whether it is in business, my family relationships, or my dealings with others it seems to me that if I can follow His example I will be on the right course to become more like Him. I have found that the gospel is about love, about forgiving, about being non judgemental and about helping others whenever there is an opportunity to do so. During my years in the church I have enjoyed participating in numerous service activities. I especially love to do things for the "widows and fatherless" having experienced what it is like to be brought up in a single parent family. I love to do missionary work and talk to others about the gospel. There are so many questions that can be answered, problems resolved and challenges met when we understand where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going - in other words, when we know the purpose of our life.
