Hi I'm A.J. Sloan

I'm a Kiwi. A student. An athlete. And I'm Mormon.

About Me

Kia Ora! I am from New Zealand, born and bred. I am the second oldest and second shortest of 7 - four brothers, two sisters. My ethnicity comprises of Polynesian (Samoan) heritage and a mixed European race (German, British). I enjoy rugby, basketball, chess and ping pong. I am currently a full-time student double majoring in applied mathematics and analytics. I enjoy philosophy and world history. Love food, especially Chinese and Polynesian food. Enjoy movies and documentaries, mainly comedy and history. Love listening to good and uplifting music, however I don't sing or play myself but I use to ballroom dance. Overall I am an average person trying to continually improve and be better in every aspect of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

Through certain spiritual and supernatural experiences that led me to know that God exists but more importantly that He is my Father in Heaven who loves me and provided me with the gift of His son Christ Jesus who wants what is best for me. One of those experiences was the witness of the Holy Ghost testifying to me as I read, studied and prayed about the Book of Mormon. Also being third generation as a member of this Church, I can not look back at my grandparents and not ask why they would give and sacrifice so much to be a part of this work. This also pathed the way of discovery for myself which has led me to believe this is the way I want to lead and live my life. I love the doctrine that families are eternal, because heaven truly wouldn't be heaven without my loved ones. Living this faith gives me a sense of direction and purpose in my life and gives me something worthy to work for. I understand my mission in life and the potential that awaits in the next. This way of living also provides me with opportunities to make this world a better place, to love, to serve and to make a difference. As a result, I have gained knowledge and understanding, peace, and joy.

How I live my faith

It's not an easy task centering my life around Jesus Christ, however the Church offers many services and opportunities of service to help me accomplish this fulfilling commitment. I serve in the youth, particularly over a group of young men who are of high school age, where I help them accomplish their divine potential in life. Also participate in a monthly program called home teaching where I visit homes to assist families in their temporal and spiritual lives. Outside the Church I strive to seek opportunities to serve those around me whether on a big scale such as within the community or on a smaller scale as in lending a helping hand to someone or something in need. I strive to be consistently true to what I know and believe. Being upright and honest in all things, pure and virtuous, doing good to all men. I served as a full-time missionary/representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in The Ohio Columbus Mission (U.S.A.) for the space of two years. I now strive to continue to be a missionary for the Lord in the capacity with which I am in.
