Hi I'm Nathan

I grew up all over the United States ranging from California to New York. I write software. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and a father of five boys. We are pretty busy a lot of the time. I love to spend time with my family. I also love to read, write and play on the computer. I have a bachelor's degree in computer science. Although I work on the computer all day professionally, I do like to come home and play around writing software or tinkering with our home network. I love to run and plan to someday run a marathon. I am a huge fan of riding motorcycles and have held a motorcycle license since I was 16 years old. I am an avid reader and own over a thousand books. I have read most of them.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the church, there came a time in my life when I had to decide for myself if I really believed in the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For me the time of "crisis" came shortly before I decided to serve a mission for the church. I had attended church fairly regularly, but I had not taken the time to really sit down and ponder its doctrines. There is a promise made at the end of the Book of Mormon (Moroni 10:3-5) by the prophet Moroni that if a person reads the Book of Mormon, thinks about its teachings and prays to God if the book is true, that the Holy Spirit will make it known unto that person. I decided to take the Lord up on His promise. I read the entirety of the Book of Mormon. I pondered its teachings and went to God in prayer asking if the book were true. What followed was one of the sweetest spiritual experiences of my life. I was given to know without any doubt that the Book of Mormon IS the word of God. Because I know that it is the word and work of God, it follows very naturally that Joseph Smith is a prophet. He taught the precepts and principles that can lead us close to God. The Priesthood of God was restored through Joseph Smith and I know that the authority to act in the name of God is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

As a family we pray and read the scriptures together. We spend at least one night a week having fun as a family and learning the doctrines of Christ. I also serve in my local congregation as an assistant to the leader of our congregation. I assist by maintaining accurate records of those members who live in our area. I also make sure that all the donations that are given to the church in our area are handled appropriately according to the laws of the land.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Nathan
Absolutely the Bible is Holy Scripture. It contains many of the words that Jesus Christ spoke while on the earth, and some of those that he spoke after. While it is true that over time errors may have crept in due to translation problems, it is entirely correct that one could live a good life while following the words contained in the Bible.
