Hi I'm Cobb Turner

I was a true blue Tar Heel. We recently moved west to be closer our children and grandchildren. I am a Mormon.

About Me

In 2011 I retired from a business career I thoroughly enjoyed!. My outside interests include baseball, college football, college basketball, and all things vintage. Since retirement I have developed a keen interest and fascination for astronomy. It was love at first sight when I met my wife on a blind date 40 years ago (she says she was blind and I was dated!). She, our 3 children and 15 grandchildren are my most trusted and best friends. In them I find the greatest hopes, joys, and shining lights in my life!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in North Carolina in the 50's and 60's. Early on my parents were not very religious, but were good and honorable people. An older brother introduced me the Gospel. Immediately after my baptism I didn't attend church regularly, and I missed the love and kindness of the members. Once I started attending, I learned to pray and my love for the Gospel grew. Regular church attendance, prayer, and supportive members are the early foundation of my faith. Later examples of a role model roommate and new friends at BYU helped solidify my commitment and desire to live the Gospel. While serving a mission in Scotland I experienced for the 1st time the personal and perfect love Jesus Christ has for me. I also learned that thru His Gospel, His love and mercy is extended to everyone. His love is manifest thru His perfect church, His pure doctrine and priesthood authority. My faith was anchored thru my missionary service. Meeting and marrying the love of my life is the core of why I am a Mormon. It includes sacred temple promises, our children, grandchildren, and the assurance our family won't end when we die. I'm a Mormon because it has led me to know & understand Jesus Christ more fully. I know He is eager to forgive and heal if we honestly try to keep His commandments. and fully repent when we fall short. I'm a Mormon because many times Christ has lifted my burdens and healed my pains. The gift of His Holy Spirit inspires me to always strive to love and follow Him.

How I live my faith

Thru prayer I'm closer to God and can feel His love for me. Prayer strengthens my faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His atonement. Thru family prayer we love each other more deeply & our faith is more unified. Prayer increases my hope and gives me courage to keep trying in the midst of trials. I strive to read scriptures each day where Christ personally speaks. As I read His words I can often hear His voice. This gift gives me greater hope and peace and increases my resolve to strive to always follow Him. Sunday worship is one of highlights of my week. My spirit is renewed and my understanding of Christ's personal atonement is deepened. Speakers, lessons, and the love & fellowship of church members strengthens me. I feel The Savior's our love as I attend the temple. Regular Temple worship provides a true refuge from life's worldly cares and pressures. I help watch over and regularly visit others in our local congregation. On occasion I teach a class or serve in a leadership capacity. I've also served on an advisory board at BYU, and as a full-time missionary in Scotland and New Zealand. Church service helps enrich and balance my life, while providing opportunities for me to give unconditional love to others. Thru service I've come to know, and better understand Jesus Christ - while also gaining greater appreciation for the many blessings in my life. Though far from perfect, I am blessed as I strive to pattern my life after the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
