Hi I'm Jon

I'm Canadian, I'm a law student, I'm a husband, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a person who loves to live life to the fullest and not just be alive. I grew up with two brothers, a sister, four step-brothers, and a mother and father who both love me. I am a Canadian who grew up in Alberta, went on a mission to Siberia in Russia, and have been all over the United States of America. I finished an undergrad in Political Science and am just starting my first year of business school in a JD/MBA program after two years of law school. I enjoy most everything and hate almost nothing. I enjoy sports, music, languages, cultures, games, but most of all people, families, and the Gospel! I have been married just over a year and it has been so exciting and great to be married to the person that makes my life the best it has ever been! It has been the absolute best thing ever in my life even with all the challenges, growth, and learning that are part of marriage, and I am so excited for the rest of my adventure with her after our great start!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of all the personal experiences that I have had that have helped me come to know the Gospel, restored in in its fullness by Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith, is true. Both of my parents came to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ's church restored on the earth and so I grew up being taught the Gospel and going to Church my whole life. I didn't always know that Jesus is my Savior, the Church is true, or that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God though. When I was a teenager I began to want to know if everything my parents taught me was true or if it was not then I was wasting my time. I began to think about if all my parents had taught me was true. There was a missionary who I became best friends with who challenged me to read the Book of Mormon. I told him I already read it but he said I need to re-read it and to really think about what I am reading. I did this and even though the answer was immediate it did come. I began to think about how I felt when I was reading the Book of Mormon. As I thought about what it would mean if it was not true I had negative feelings and thoughts about there being no purpose to life and life being just all about self and no real lasting hapiness but then as I though about what it would mean if it was true I was full of feelings of joy and hapiness and understanding that life and my actions have meaning and purpose. This was the Spirit trying to tell my Spirit that what I was reading was true. By getting an answer to prayer from Heavenly Father through the Spirit I came to know the Book of Mormon was true for myself. I have continued to have similar experiences about many related things such as Joseph Smith being a prophet, this Church being true, a modern living prophet, temples and eternal marriage and many other things, and I will continue to learn and grow in this same way as I learn more and more truth for myself!

How I live my faith

I try to be like Christ and love others every day. I try to love my family, I try to love my friends, I try to love my fellow students, and everyone including those different or unkind to me and just be kind, nice, patient, and just do good. Love is always the answer. I find that the Church, its teachings, and trying to live what I am taught will bless me with the Spirit in my life such as praying, reading scriptures, going to Church, and serving others helps me to be more like Christ.
