Hi I'm Roy

I'm a Mormon. I'm not JUST a Mormon of course...but it's a very important part of who and what I am.

About Me

I am a family physician, married for 20 years (to the same woman : ), and father of 3 boys. I enjoy woodworking and backpacking.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were introduced to the Church several years before I was born, and after being taught about the the gospel of Jesus Christ, including the restoration, modern day prophets, and the Book of Mormon, they believed. They were baptized and taught me from childhood. As I reached adolescence I studied, pondered, and prayed for my own witness of the truthfulness of these things and received that witness. At the age of 19 I submitted an application to serve a 2 year term of voluntary missionary service and was called by a living prophet to serve in Osaka, Japan. It was the most challenging and worthwhile thing I had ever undertaken to that point in my life, and I suppose it remains so. I believe that God lives, that He has a clear plan for us, and that despite widespread confusion about what that plan might be he will reveal it to anyone who sincerely seeks to know. It is found within the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, which in turn is found within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Every good thing and blessing in my life I can ascribe to my understanding of, commitment to, and efforts to live according to the teachings found within this church.

How I live my faith

I strive to be obedient to the commandments - the ten familiar to most Christians as recorded in the Old Testament, and others given later by Christ during his ministry in the New Testament, and later still to subsequent prophets. In my little town of 10 000 or so people we have a congregation of Latter-Day Saints, and I have served in many capacities within this wonderful group of people, as a teacher and leader in the youth program, and later for 5 years as the Branch President (pastor). The time I have spent serving in the Church has been strenuous at times but always rewarding. God has blessed me and my family and continues to bless us as we try and do what He asks us to. I regularly (daily!) study the scriptures including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and continually receive new insights and inspiration from God as I try to apply the lessons and principles recorded there to my life. I am a LONG way from perfect : ( ...but I try not to become discouraged. When I pray and ask for help in overcoming my shortcomings, and ask for comfort, faith, or direction I believe my prayers are answered. I have great confidence in my Heavenly Father's love for me, and believe that he is genuinely interested in my happiness and well-being. If you know me, and in some circumstance don't feel that I am setting a very good example of a follower of Jesus Christ, I would appreciate a gentle reminder to that effect : )
