Hi I'm Mark

I live in Colorado with my wife and three sons. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 42, married to my wife of 22 years with three sons ages 21, 17, and 10. I work as a systems and network engineer for a small company. I grew up in Florida, served in the army for several years, and have lived and traveled all over the world before settling here in Colorado. I love hiking, fishing, and camping with my family. I also enjoy history and political science.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because, after years of searching and studying many religions and philosophies, the LDS faith answered many questions and filled in the gaps in my beliefs. No other religion - from the Methodism of my youth to the Buddhism of my adult years - came close to providing me with the sense of fulfillment that my Mormon faith does. From the pre-eminent place of the family in the Plan of Salvation to the details of our pre-mortal existence and the degrees of exaltation in the Kingdoms of Glory, it all makes sense now. I joined the church about a year ago, and it has been the most amazing year of my life! Sure, I've had my ups and downs like anyone but it's my reaction and attitude that are different now. I know that no matter what happens, my Heavenly Father is there to guide and protect me. I also feel better than I have in years since I gave up many self-destructive habits and unhealthy ways. I have even been able to hike in the mountains with my family, something I could never have done a year ago. Joining the church is a life-altering event, for the better! Very rarely in life do we have the opportunity to do so much good; for ourselves, our families, and our communities. I would urge everyone who is searching to look here.

How I live my faith

How do I live my faith? Imperfectly, at best. My faith grows and matures daily. I can only hope that my faith is visible through my integrity, my commitment to my family, and a cheerful countenance. I strive to always put others' needs ahead of my own, to serve my congregation's members and my community, and to be an example of the believers to those around me. While I often fall short of these goals, I continue to strive to achieve them each and every day. These traits in other members are what attracted me to the Church, and I hope that I can have that same influence on others.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Mark
Surprisingly, I get asked this question more than any other about our church. It' surprising in that the law of the tithe is an ancient one, and one that applies to all of the Jewish and Christian faiths. Wonderful blessing are bestowed upon us when we tithe. In my own instance, within 6 months of joining the church and paying my tithing I was offered a job by a company I had always wanted to work for, with a substantial increase in both pay and benefits. I know that this was a direct result of my faith in paying my tithing. Show more Show less
