Hi I'm Gus

I love my family. I like having fun. I am a hardworking individual, and a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single father of two beautiful school age children. I love my kids with all of my heart, even when they are driving me crazy. I like teaching them about the world, including different cultures, and the ways in which they can identify with others. I enjoy listening to music. I like the feeling I get when I help someone in need. I like going camping, going on float trips, visiting with family and friends, eating out, and just staying in watching a good movie. I like to travel, read, go to the zoo, and absorb what I can from a good museum.

Why I am a Mormon

I had a friend who wanted me to go to church with her. She asked me to go on several occasions, but I declined each time. One day I was at her house and the missionaries came over. They asked me if we could have a discussion. I didn't see any reason why not, I'd like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent individual, and not easily "tricked" into doing things. We had a good conversation, they answered some questions I had and were very polite. They asked if they could come back again and have another discussion with me later. I saw no reason to refuse since the past conversation was uplifting. To make a long story short, on about the third or fourth discussion they asked me if I prayed whether the Book of Mormon and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were true. I said I had. They asked me if I had gotten an answer. I told them I hadn't. They asked if I would mind if we said a prayer together at that time. I had no objections. One of the missionaries began to pray, and as I sat there with my arms folded, and my eyes closed, listening to this prayer, my whole body began to feel warm. I felt so full of love, I couldn't stop hugging myself, and I was crying because I had never felt such a powerful feeling, and I knew nobody could make me feel such a feeling. The missionaries told me that what I was feeling was the power of the Holy Ghost testifying to me. This was one of the greatest days of my life. I have never looked at life the same way since.

How I live my faith

Since I've become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I've had the opportunity to help in teaching the children in Sunday school learn about the Bible. The stories contained in the Bible can be very complex, especially when it comes to the parables. I have been amazed at how the children love to learn these stories and have some level of understanding. Their comments can be so insightful at times. Their perspective is so innocent. I have enjoyed going to members homes to share meals, as well as activities, and messages that pertain to the gospel. I like going with the missionaries to share messages with those who are not members. I have also had the opportunity to work with other members, and help members move from their homes. It's always nice to help someone in need.
