Hi I'm Josh

I'm a college student studying psychology. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five siblings. My family grew up in this church, though not all of my family members continue to attend. Having recently returned from a mission in California, I am now a sophomore studying psychology at BYU-Idaho. I love everything I am learning and hope to use it to help those who may go through some of the most difficult struggles life may throw at them. I love being active, including a variety of different sports. I love spending time with good friends and family, especially my wife and best friend, Sloan.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Latter-day Saint because I know this is God's restored church on the earth. I grew up as a member of this church, and I was taught all about the many different aspects of the gospel, but a time came when I could no longer rely on the testimony of my parents and church leaders. I knew the only way to find the truth for my self was through reading the Book of Mormon and praying to know about it. My answer certainly didn't come all at once, but was more of an accumulation of very small whisperings and comforts from the Holy Ghost as I read. I prayed many times hoping for a grand experience, but an answer never came while I was on my knees, but more so when I was I was in the act of studying. I also have received a witness that God has called a prophet and 12 apostles on the earth today. Studying their modern teachings has confirmed my testimony that God continues to lead and guide us today as he has in the past.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to use the time God has given me to its fullest. God wants us to be happy and live by the standards he has set. We should not just try to make the best of some of our time to serve our Heavenly Father, but we should use every minute of every day doing the best possible things that we can. I love learning and teaching inside God's church. There is always something more to learn, and there is always something I can improve on. Daily consistent growth should be what defines us. Then after having experiences of growth we should share what we have learned with others to help them grow as well. We show our true commitment and faith by following God's instructions to the best of our ability, and I know that is what makes me truly happy.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

The simplest answer is that God chooses the prophet, and that He has an organized system for calling that man to be His spokesman on the earth. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith almost 200 years ago to call him as the first prophet of the last days. Joseph was inspired to call 12 men to stand as modern day apostles just as there were in the New Testament. When the standing prophet passes away the senior apostle, the apostle who has had the calling to be an apostle longest, is chosen to fill his place. There are also two men chosen of the apostles to act as counselors to the prophet. This makes a total of 15 men called to lead the church in an organized manner. These men remain in their callings until the of their lives, after which those who are left prayerfully select another to replace he who has passed on. Show more Show less
