Hi I'm Matthew Blackburn

I am a truck driver, and a heavy equipment operator. I grew up in southwest Iowa. I enjoy playing sports, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as the fourth of nine children. I played sports throughout my school days, including soccer, football, and wrestling. Upon graduating from school I prepared to serve an LDS mission. I went to Bogota, Colombia, and Long Beach, California. It was a great experience to be able to meet people from all over the world, and to share my feelings about the gospel with them. I have always had a fascination with construction equipment since I was a small boy. I decided that I wanted to be a heavy equipment operator. I attended a college that taught me the skills I would need to be successful in that career. I have returned to the area where I grew up, and work for a small construction company. I have always been amazed at the opportunities I have had to share my feelings about my Savior, Jesus Christ. The best moments in my life have come when I am doing what is right. I have had my share of struggles and hardships, but I know that they will help me be a better me, if I learn the lessons that are available.

Why I am a Mormon

The biggest reason why I'm a Mormon is because I have prayed about what I have learned. My family history includes many members of the Mormon church. I was asked once in high school by the father of a friend what message I could share with the world about being Mormon. It caused me to think back on all the things my parents had taught me. As I reflected on those experiences, I was reminded that I should read the Book of Mormon to find out for myself if it was true. I took that challenge, and in 2 months had read it all. I prayed to my Father in heaven, knowing I would get some sort of answer. The greatest feeling I have ever known came to my heart and my mind. I knew it was true. I applied that same test to the other teachings: Joseph Smith, the priesthood, eternal families, all I had been taught. I received the same answer. When I graduated from high school, I sought out my friend's father to share with him what I had learned. I am so grateful to know that God would allow His children the opportunity to know Him better. I am grateful that He has a plan to help us return to live with Him. Jesus Christ is our Savior, and lives today.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be a good member of my community. I work to participate in activities that allow me to get to know those around me. I am in a new ward and have a new calling, or responsibility. I have a stewardship over Sunday School classes. These are classes that teach basic principles of the gospel to new members, teenage youths, and adults as well. It helps me to get to know new people pretty quick, as I meet with the Instructors and class members. I make time to worship in a nearby Temple as well. I get answers to questions I have for my life while I am there.
