Hi I'm Shawn

I grew up in Seattle and am now a 3rd year medical student. I am very excited to be a father in Oct. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I love to play. I love the outdoors, going hiking, biking, skiing, and kitesurfing. It was great fun growing up in the recreational paradise of the Pacific Northwest. Medical school is a lot of work, but a lot of fun. I am so fascinated by what I am learning, and am really enjoying being involved in patient care as a 3rd year. Kind of nervous about being a father and balancing school but I am optimistic that we can balance our schedules.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I believe that life has a great purpose. Coming from a scientific/medical background it is easy for me to logically see that God does exist. Our bodies are so complex with amino acids linking and folding in just the right confirmation, that chemical bonds and moving atoms can actually have a function. To me it is amazing that even the simplest enzymes are able to function and even more amazing that the combination of such molecular structures give function to moving autonomous bodies. Our bodies with our intelligence are too amazing to be produced by chance alone. I believe that God created us in his image and has given us this life to learn and grow, make decisions, and become more like him. Life is not just this brief period on Earth which ends with death, but about living in the eternities to come. I know this is true because it just doesn't make sense if life ended with our mortal death. I am so thankful to know this with the suffering and death I see in the hospital. Life has a purpose, and God has a plan for us. We can obey his commandments and be blessed in the life after this one. I know God loves me and that he has a plan for us. He has given us many reminders, in the scriptures and through the words of the Prophets, and we must exercise faith and act on the feeling of our hearts.

How I live my faith

I enjoy attending church every Sunday. I am so uplifted by the talks given and taking the sacrament. I also feel that I get many more blessing and learn so much more with my service in the church. I organize/assist in cleaning the church building so that all the members can enjoy a place of reverence. I also teach a Sunday School class every third weekend. My class is specially made for parents with younger children who can roam around the class. I enjoy the light feelings they bring as we study and discuss the New Testament this year. Service has helped me grow closer to other church members and to my Savior as I try to be more like him.
