Hi I'm Dorson

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Salem Oregon and live just a few miles from where I was born. I am a contractor and remodel buildings.

About Me

I enjoy snow skiing in nearby mountains in the winter. I like camping too, especially with my sons when they were boy scouts. When I go to dinner with my parents and children, I usually pick up the check, so I suppose that makes me middle aged. Recently I have learned how to use a Ham radio and got my license-I don't use it much, but its sort of fun. My job is great because I get the chance to drive all around Oregon and do some great sight seeing. I work in the yard some-just enough to keep the grass green. Since I have a built in fear of (shovel) handles, my yard doesn't get the attention it deserves perhaps, but it looks good to me. Work, and yardwork in particular fascinates me, I could stand and watch others do it for hours. I like the rain when it comes-in fact hot weather is a drag for me. When I am in the sun I dream of skiing in deep powder snow. Winter time is worse because I memorize the current weather patterns for the Western United states and plan for (fictional) ski trips I could take the next Saturday.

Why I am a Mormon

My family was 'inactive' for all of my childhood years but when I became a teenager I decided to ask God what I should do. I accepted the challenge of my Seminary teacher to read the Book of Mormon (BOM). After a couple of weeks I was half way through it and I came to know that it was true. I had known from a much earlier age that God loved me and that Jesus was born of Mary. After reading the BOM I knew the church was true and that I needed to do the things the Prophet and the Church leaders were teaching me to do. I decided to go on a mission and I was called to serve in Albuquerque New Mexico Mission. As I taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ my understanding and testimony of the Church grew. I drew closer and closer to my Savior and my God as I pressed forward in His service. My Mission President became my hero and I have attemped where possible to model his behavior. My testimony today guides me and holds me up through my journey here on Earth.

How I live my faith

I do alot of volunteer work for the Church here where I live. Its very rewarding to help others and watch them grow as they develop their faith in the Savior. I help promote the concept of Provident Living in the city where I live; I encourage others to plan to live within their means and help prepare plans to help us deal with emergencies when they occur. As a grandparent its rewarding to see my children grow up and make good choices as they decide to follow the Lord. I realize that my job as a 'grandpa' is to set the example for my grandchildren and help teach them what is right. I must follow the teachings of the scriptures so that I can answer my children's questions with credibility when they are asked.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Dorson
The attitude of the Church is that we are all of God's children and that we, God's children, are to accept and love one another. God loves all of us and gives each of us the opportunity to create our own families, have children, and return to him after this life is over. This is a tremendous gift and opportunity that He has given to each and every one of us. His plan of happiness calls for us to form families by uniting men and women through marriage so they can have children and experience life together as a family unit. Individuals deny themselves of these opportunities when they decide to live their lives outside this prescriptive path. One of life's tests is to gain strenth through obedience to Gods commandments-which by definition, is not easy to do. Show more Show less
