Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a Mormon. I have a strong Mormon heritage, but it took me many years to develop my own testimony.

About Me

I have been married for 34 years and have 5 children and 9 grandchildren. I have worked for the same company for the last 33 years and hope to work there until I retire. I enjoy reading, movies, music, eating, and sleeping. Besides the scriptures and other religious books, I mostly read non-fiction, especially history and biographies. Some of my favorites have been Washington by Chernow, John Adams by McCullough, Churchill by Gilbert, Team of Rivals by Goodwin, Dreadnought by Massie, and Peter the Great by Massie. I enjoy movies that have an interesting story line and fascinating characters. I enjoyed the Indiana Jones series, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Patton, African Queen, Signs, The Village, Amadeus, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I also liked the TV show The Paper Chase. As for music, the best music was between about 1964 and 1978. Almost everything I have would fall in that period. I am kind of a home body and prefer spending time with my family. I really look forward to holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. For me, just hanging around the house can be a good vacation though I do like to travel. I am a stereotypical tourist as I like to see the sights and take pictures of places I've never been to before. I would love to go to Greece, Egypt, Italy, France and England. Maybe I will be able to do so someday.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate enough to marry a woman who has a pretty strong testimony of the church as I was not very religious for several years. She would go to church every week and I went with her most of the time. Years passed and I never felt the desire to pursue it further until one Sunday in July 2002. We were at church and listened to a few people share their testimonies of Jesus Christ and his gospel. As I listened I started asking myself why these people felt something that I didn't feel. Considering this through the remainder of church that day I decided that I would go to an isolated place and have an honest heart to heart discussion with God about my feelings. There was nothing particularly disconcerting to me about my life at that time so I wasn't feeling troubled by anything other than this nagging feeling that I was missing something in my life that others seemed to have. As I knelt and opened up my heart to God, I spilled out my thoughts and feelings on a whole variety of things. I didn't make a great effort to organize my thoughts so much as I just expressed whatever I was feeling at the time. I don't remember how long I prayed, but I felt impressed by the end that there were a handful of things that I needed to do. I started from that moment on to make some changes in my life and make a sincere effort to do those things that I felt I needed to do. As the weeks and months passed I found myself actively striving to live my life in accordance with the gospel. Some things that I thought I would never be able to change were actually changed much easier than I would have thought. Over time I came to know that living my life consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed to us through his chosen prophet and apostles was the way God would have me live. I received undeniable confirmation through the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Savior and the Mormon Church is his restored church on the earth today with the priesthood authority to bring us to eternal life.

How I live my faith

I strive to live consistently with the gospel, teachings, and commandments of Jesus Christ as He has revealed them to humankind through scriptural prophets and through the prophets and apostles living today. Each day I pray for God's guidance and protection to show me the things that he would have me learn and accomplish that day. I try to love him and my fellow man by showing kindness to others and by sharing with them the gospel principles that God has shared with me. We are here on earth for a reason and we should not ignore that reason or spend our time pursuing anything that is counter to that reason. The reason we are here is to gain the happiness and eternal life that God has made available to us through the atonement of Jesus Christ if we will just follow the plan he has laid out for us to accomplish this. Without the atonement of Jesus Christ, eternal life would not be possible for us so I want to share that knowledge with others. I ride the train and bus to work which has given me many opportunities to share the gospel with others who are open to hearing about it. Work has given me the chance to share with my co-workers the beauty and importance of this message. Church gives me the opportunity to teach others the gospel principles that I have been able to learn as well as the opportunity to learn more from others. And if we are all receptive to the Holy Ghost, he will teach us the truth of all things.
