Hi I'm Richard

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and a father of 5 children. My wife and I have been married for 24 years now. We have two sons and three daughters. My oldest three children are in College. I have one son in middle school and one daughter in elementary school. Between all of them, we stay pretty busy between school activities, sports or music activities and church activities. I'm an Engineer working with large diesel engines throughout the world. I travel quite a bit for work, and while that is interesting at times, I much prefer to be home with my family. I'm not always too successful with my hobbies, but I love my vegetable garden. I get better and better each year.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of the teachings and scriptures available. Having an understanding of my purpose in life helps me make decisions and guide my actions both personally and as a husband and father. I would not have the same goals for myself and family if I didn’t have the church. I also appreciate having more scripture in addition to the Bible that help me understand the gospel. I also find comfort in knowing that God has a prophet on the earth to guide and counsel us. Especially with my children, there are standards and teachings that help me answer all of the "why" questions my kids throw at me.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith at work and home, as well as at church. At work, I simply try to be honest and speak the truth. I also keep my language clean and influence those around me to avoid abrasive language even in heated discussions. At home, we always eat dinner together at the table as a family. It's the one chance we have to be together and talk. We also try to have everyone together one time a week for our “family night.” It’s only an hour, but we talk about our family calendar for the week ahead, have a quick lesson about something we need as a family and then have treats and play games. My favorite treat is brownies, especially if I can have the crunchier corner pieces.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Richard
That He really is the Father of our Spirits (the part of me that thinks and has feelings and will never die). As one of his children, He cares about me. He is a glorified and perfect person who loves me and is reachable. When I've felt him communicate directly with me, it makes me understand my own worth as a person and makes me want to live better.
