Hi I'm David

I love rock climbing, relaxing to music. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Currently I am studying Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at University. I have always enjoyed maths and luckily I find it easy... most of the time. I hope to go into Power Engineering when I finish University and help design innovative and sustainable energy generating solutions! I really like sports and enjoy rock climbing, squash and table tennis the most! I like sports because it keeps me healthy and clears my head. I enjoy reading and will read every morning and especially on bus rides. Reading helps me to ponder and learn. My only problem is that I always swap between many books (so one for the bus rides, a different one for the mornings and a different one again for the evenings). It takes me so long to finish them all! I have played piano for a few years now and also guitar. My favourite songs to play are classical songs on the piano and Spanish music on the guitar. I listen to Electro / Techno music to relax while doing homework.

Why I am a Mormon

My family joined the church when I was 7 years old. The following year I was also baptised. My parents were always diligent members and made sure I came along to Church every Sunday. At the age of 16 I realised that I couldn't just believe my parents and everyone around me that everything being taught was true: I had to find out for myself. So I took the challenge of reading the Book of Mormon. It took me a few months and I learnt and grew so much during that time! At the end I knelt by my bedside and prayed to Heavenly Father whether or not this was the true church and whether or not the Book of Mormon was true. As soon as I finished my prayer an overwhelming feeling of peace and love came upon me. This was the Holy Ghost (Galatians 5:22-23) and I knew just like my parents knew, that this was God's true Church upon the Earth today. And I knew that the Book of Mormon really was true scripture inspired and written for all of us today!

How I live my faith

In my Ward I am a representative for the young adults. I organise activities for and look after the age group of 18 to 30 year old's. This is an awesome opportunity for me to get to know all the other young adults and I hope that I can become close friends with them! Every month I go out with an older member and we visit certain homes of some of the members. We get to teach them a lesson and also offer them any assistance or service if they need it. I attend a Bible Study class every Wednesday and Thursday where I get to learn about how I can apply Christs teachings into my everyday life as a young adult. I also get to meet young adults from other wards and build friendships that can help me through life. I served as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Adelaide, Mount Gambier, Alice Springs and Darwin. I got to spend every day for two years serving the people around me by helping to lift their burdens and helping them to learn about Christ who can lift their Spiritual burdens and show them a greater life. I had the wonderful opportunity to serve with the Aboriginal communities of Alice Springs where I got to see the most happy and humble people! I am growing so much in understanding through all my reading and my classes! Learning is just so amazing and there is always so much to learn! I am so glad to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am so glad to be a Mormon!

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets who lived on the American continent. The first prophet was Lehi. He lived with his family in Jerusalem but was told to leave the city. He listened to the Lord and journeyed across the Sea to the American continent with another family. After many years two nations came about; their names were the Nephites and the Lamanites. Prophets who lived on the American continent recorded the history and battles of these two nations and also recorded their teachings to them. Mormon was the second last prophet in the Book of Mormon and he abridged all the histories and teachings of prophets onto gold plates. His son, Moroni, buried the plates. Over a millennia later, the Prophet Joseph Smith was guided to the plates and through the power of the Holy Ghost and through means prepared by the Lord, he translated the plates into English. That translation is now the Book of Mormon and today it has been translated from English into many other languages! Show more Show less
