Hi I'm Dr Joe Ireland

I love the philosophy of science, writing and roleplaying fantasy literature, my familily, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live for a better world. I do touring science shows, mostly in primary schools, and am committed to helping children develop lasting and empowering beliefs especially with regards to the creation of knoweldge through science . Some of the best people in the world are little people! I recently completed a doctorate in the philosophy of science education, and look forward to sharing what I've learnt. Most of the time I'm doing science shows in kindergartens and primary schools, but occationally I can be cajolled into a magic show or two. I almost feel like I've found my place in the world. In my spair time I love being a dungeon master for my Dungeons & Dragons mad LDS friends. I also love writing fantasy books for children, and have several successfully published! Most of all I love my little family, made up of my wife we met on the 6th of april on a temple bus, and three amazing daughters who sometimes get my humour - see, *amazing*.

Why I am a Mormon

No one is born a Mormon - you need to choose to become converted, and put in the effort to, even if your parents and grandparents have been in the church for over 50 years because some American guy knocked on their door over 50 years ago. Like me converted, not an American! How did I become converted? Experiments. I 'tried the virtue of the good word of God' from a very young age, committing to be a good person, and found all the blessings were real for any who understood the good word of God and applied it. I found out tithing was true by paying it. I found out God answered prayers by praying - I recommend it. I have gotten to the point of listening to the Holy Spirit so that I experience it dozens of times a day, and mostly for just little things that make the world a little bit of a better place. I've served a mission, had amazing spiritual experiences, etc. That's not what converted me. Praying sincerely for answer to my questions, then getting those answers - that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

1/ Be kind to my wife and children, for I believe they are Gods first, and I will answer to Him for their care one day. 2/ Pray. A lot, well, according to some expectations! FYI - I pray to God the Father, in the name of Jesus Christ (who IS my personal saviour). I remember to thank before I ask, and ask I do, because He told me to (Matthew 7;7), for everything that He has placed in my care. 3/ I love going to church, and getting a spiritual 'clean out and tune up' for the week. I also go home teaching once or twice a month to check in on my Christian friends. 4/ I particularly like Elder Quorum, Man time, at church where we discuss our responsibilities, remind ourselves to be good people, and can often find help when we need it. My calling at the moment is to help make appointments for the Bishop (similar to a pastor), though i've most recently enjoyed teaching an early morning religion class to the teenagers (called 'seminary' - church at 6am each weekday anyone?)
