Hi I'm joel

I'm a mountain biker and a hiker, and my grandkids call me "jopa". I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a geoscientist and have always enjoyed the challenge of exploring both the surface of the earth and what lies hidden inside of it. For me, every day starts with three things: prayer, scripture study, and riding my mountain bike. Everything else has to wait. Well, except for my grandkids -- they are a great joy in my life and I love spending time with them whenever I have a chance, and if that can include a hike in our stunning Colorado mountains, so much the better!

Why I am a Mormon

It's pretty simple. Over many years, I've come to have a quiet, inner assurance that the Lord Jesus Christ himself brought his gospel back to the earth in it's purity and directly re-established his original church. I've come to know his voice through both ancient and modern scripture. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are special friends that I turn to each day because they teach me to follow the Savior and to know him better.

How I live my faith

I just love the feelings of unity and togetherness that exist both with my wife and my family and in our congregation because of the covenants we have each made directly with the Lord. Knowing that I am on his team, it's a great feeling simply to go out and serve others, because everyone has a need and can be strengthened by the support of others. I try to follow the two simple things that Jesus Christ did daily: he taught the truth, and he cared for people as individuals. One of the things I really appreciate about the way the Lord re-established his church is that the priesthood is centered in every home so that the blessings of the gospel can be right there. As a father, I can give blessings of health, comfort, or direction to my spouse and children, as well as perform sacred ordinances such as baptism for them. Truly these have been some of the sweetest and most cherished experiences of my life, and have brought some of the most indelible and enduring impressions of the influence of the Holy Ghost into our family circle.
