Hi I'm Roy

I love my life. I'm a husband, father, and grandfather. I own and run a family-style restaurant for 30 years. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in a small town in New Mexico by loving parents. I was raised in the Baptist church and went to services with my mom and dad. My life with them was good. I loved sports and played them all! I was involved in school activities and had great friends. After graduation, I found myself trying to discover what the future would hold. My older brother invited me to come and live with him and his family in Tulsa, OK. It was a great idea, as I also wanted to try and walk-on the baseball team of the local college. Wes (my brother) had joined the LDS church years earlier and I began to attend to the Mormon church with them. I loved the special spirit I felt there. Everything I learned just seemed to make sense to me. Two months later, when I had received a witness of its truthfulness, I joined this wonderful Church. My life changed forever in the most important ways. A year later, I left to serve a 2 year mission. This decision to represent the Savior, as a missionary, has proven to be a major blessing in mine and family's lives. I learned through service how much God loves all His children. After returning home, my sweetheart and I were married for eternity in the temple. That was 31 years ago! We are blessed with 4 wonderful children and 8 grandchildren. Our lives are filled with family and service - we are happy, and ever grateful. This gospel of Jesus Christ is the anchor in our lives. I know it is true and can not imagine my life without it.

Why I am a Mormon

I knew the very first time I heard the missionary discussions, that this was the Savior's church upon the earth. I had always kown of God's love, but it all came together for me as I heard the story of Joseph Smith. To know that Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth in our day, opened the heavens and spoke to a 14 year old boy named Joseph, who they called by name, greatly touched my heart. If God could reveal truth to Joseph Smith, then why not me? I knew after reading the Book of Mormon, and through the power of prayer, that it was translated by the gift and power of God and that it was a special book written for our time and our day. I knew that being baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was what I needed to do to follow Christ. I wanted that very much. I knew that it would become a way of life and it has. I love my Savior with all my heart. How richly He has blessed my life and my family's lives. I have now been a member of this Church for 35 years!

How I live my faith

I have served in many callings through the years, but most of them have to do with serving the youth in some way. I have a great love for them and empathy for their struggles, and the short time of preparation they have before they enter the adult world. They are genuine, strong, enthusiastic, and teachable. Their courage in living in a time that is full of challenges and seeking to make the world a better place, inspires me. I have always felt so honored to be involved with them. They are truly amazing! In the church, our opportunities and responsibilites to serve do change, so we can continue to learn and develop our talents. I have simply tried to give the best I have, in whatever I am asked to do. Giving of my time and abilities has helped me to grow as a person and I have experienced for myself the joy that comes from serving others, in my family, my community and in my church. I also try to live my faith by having intergrity, treating others with kindness and respect, striving to follow the perfect example of my Savior, Jesus Christ. My Heavenly Father and my Savior come first in my life. Then, my sweet wife. Then, come our children and grandchildren. Having clear priorities based on things that really matter in this life, has helped me to create balance and happiness in my life. Prayer and study of the scriptures are personal devotions that increase and strengthen my faith. They help me to face challenges, increase my understanding of spiritual things, and remind me of the Lord's goodness and mercy to me.
