Hi I'm Greg

I serve in the United States Military, I'm married, I was baptized in 2010, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Illinois. I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, and converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in August, 2010. I have served in the U.S. Army since 2008. I am a Sergeant and a Geospatial Engineer. I enjoy sports, especially baseball and bowling. I have been married for just over a year now, and we have a beautiful dog, Maggie, a German/Australian Shepherd mix. I enjoy the time I spend with my wife and our dog, I spend large amounts of time away from home as a soldier, so I cherish every moment with my family when I am home. I am active, I love to hike and be outside doing sports, especially during the summer. I am taking online college courses to complete my degree while I serve in the military, as I value the importance of education for later in life, and the opportunities it brings.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member because of faith and hope. I dated my wife for 3 years before we broke apart. Not long after she left to serve a mission in Argentina, I felt an impression to do more with my life as well and joined the military. We both personally felt that our past relationship was never fully over. When I departed for my first overseas deployment it was just after my wife, then just a friend, returned home from her mission. I returned from overseas 4 months later and we soon got back together, 3 months later we married, and soon after that, I began discussions with the missionaries in my area, after I had seen how the church and the spirit had brought so much joy to my wife's life. I was baptized in August, then the following year in February, just before my 2nd deployment overseas I was conferred to the Melchizedek Priesthood. My testimony grows every day as a Mormon and a member of the Church. The Lord has brought so many blessings to my life and my families' and we have a stronger marriage because of it.

How I live my faith

Since I have joined the church I have had many oppertunities to share my testimony of the Church and the Book of Mormon. It is a wonderful experience to give talks during church meetings, and it has allowed me to lift the spirits of those around me. I have served in the leadership groups in my home ward and overseas on my deployment I have been humbled those high up in the Church leadership (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles) have visited and showed their humility around us members. I have an active part in the Church's service member's group overseas, where I get to preside and help inspire those around me, as they intern inspire me. I actively read the scriptures and watch and listen to the church's general conferences, and aspire more and more to be like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What is being a Mormon like?

Greg
Being a Mormon is like being like any good person here on the Earth. We strive to remember our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and their teachings. We listen with our hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, so we may know the right and good choices in life, even if they may be hard. We strive to fulfill our Heavenly Father's Plan to be active in the Church, be sealed in the Temple to a mate for time and eternity, and raise a family according to the teachings of the Scriptures.
