Hi I'm Roy

I'm a Mormon. I have lived in Texas most of my life. I am a retired school teacher.

About Me

I grew up in a family with two brothers and three sisters. My dad was a construction worker and traveled all over the world. My mom was a stay at home mom. After high school I enlisted in the army and served four years before beginning college in 1971. I worked for the Police Department while attending college. After graduation I began my teaching career while coaching football and baseball. In 1989 I entered the administrative side of education and retired in 2002 as principal at an intermediate school.

Why I am a Mormon

My family, mother, father and siblings were all baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My earliest memories of the church include my mother as a primary teacher and my dad as a scout master. Unfortunately by the time I entered junior high school my father was a part time dad. His work took him all over the world and we would see him between jobs, usually about every nine to twelve months. Between junior high and high school my contact with the church was minimal. I attended scouts from time to time and played basketball with the young men. I did not attend my church for many years. After marrying my wife, who was from a very good family of another faith, and beginning a family I began to think of the things in my life that were really important. My only religious beliefs were rudimentary but nagged at my conscience frequently. My wife agreed to hear the missionary discussions and that was my chance to see if I had an accurate recollection of what the church stood for. Even though I had never read the Book of Mormon I knew that the key to learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ was between those pages. I began reading every morning. To my surprise a story unfolded before me that I knew was true. I had never considered what the Book of Mormon was actually about! Questions that I had not even thought of were answered. The plain and simple truths spoke to my heart and changed my life. My family has been richly blessed by the experiences and opportunities that have been received through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I have served in my church in many different capacities from teaching small children to leading groups of adults. My wife and I are currently working with those members that are single helping and advising as they plan activities that provide fellowship and gospel centered education. As a young man I was painfully shy so standing in front of people was not an easy task. My own personal growth has been enhanced by the opportunity to serve others and my life has been richly blessed.

Are Mormons Christians?

Roy
I testify to you that I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, my Savior and Redeemer. He left His heavenly home and came to this earth to provide a way that we might, by His grace, overcome death and return to live with Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is based on His teachings. The Book of Mormon is another testament of the divinity of Jesus Christ and compliments the Bible. I am excited to know that my Heavenly Father loves me enough to continue to provide light and guidance during such a perilous time as we live in. Show more Show less
