Hi I'm David

I love the outdoors, survival skills, rope, BSA, computers, I want to be an engineer and i'm a Mormon.

About Me

Well, I enjoy the outdoors. One of my favorite things to do is hike and camp. I want to learn how to survive in the wilderness with clothes & a knife. Friction fire is awesome. When possible I use the old fashioned tape: rope and a good knot. I learned to love rope as a scout. I am a Eagle scout and spent six years working at a scout camp called Maple Dell. My time there taught me that organization is one of the most important things to keep you sane and productive, though I don't go through the effort to maintain it as often as I should. The intricate organization of math is fascinating. Math is my favorite subject in school and is relaxing at times. I also relax playing RPGs or RTS games, making jewelry from rope, reading, watching a good show and doing any of those things with friends makes it even better. Cooking is fun, though I am not very good. Good food is worth the effort and time it takes to make. I would like to know how to be a paramedic and engineer, do Martial arts, play the piano, live in the wild and get plants to live in an aquarium.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up Mormon, at some point everyone needs to find out for themselves if God is real, and if you are really doing what he would have you do. In high school I doubted the existence of God. Was there really this supreme being who knows all and has all power? That was really unfathomable, and still is really. If such a being existed, would or could they love everyone? Oddly enough now that I look back at it I suspected that it was true I kind of new but I allowed the doubts that the fallable and incomplete human logic can bring to dominate my thoughts and attention. After I took a physics test that I felt something helped me on I had a feeling of assurance kind of a "Yes, I really am real." That is when I decided not to doubt the existance of God. Though after this is the question Gods real now what? I didn't really think to hard about it at the time. I was happy were I was at. Things made sense I felt good about being LDS. I really was appathetic just following beliving but not knowing that this was Gods church.

How I live my faith

By doing my best to follow the commandments of God and repenting when I make a mistake. Currently one major way I am doing that is serving a full time mission. I am teaching those people who will listen to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them find out that the Book of Mormon is true for themselves. Sharing the gospel has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life so far and has given me a greater desire to personally follow Christ.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by prophets just like the Bible. For example the acounts of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John are all inspired even though they are different. It is the same with the Book of Mormon only prophets in the americas were writting starting from about 600 BC to 400 AD. We all need guidence from god. The existance of the Book of Mormon is a wittness to that. God will guide any group anywere in the world if they are willing to follow the prophets that he gives them and those prophets will all teach the same thing. That is why the Bible and the Book of Mormon build on each other they teach the same things in slightly different ways. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Grace is the divine help that we recieve from God to follow his comandments and eventually be saved it the kingdom of God. It enables us to keep the commandments as long as we are putting forth all of the effort that we can to do so. God is not going to help us keep a comandment that we really don't want to keep. This help is not necisarily immediate but God will give us a way. 1 Nephi 3:7 This verse says that but if you read chapters 3 and 4 it shows the whole story. In this story it would be by the grace of God Nephi obtains the brass plates after all that he could do. This grace comes because of Jesus Christ's suffering for us in the garden of gethsemene, sacrifice on the cross and latter resurection. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Experiment on the word. Try it out. As we try something with a willing heart and mind we can see whether it benifits us or not. That is what faith is really enough hope to act. If we want to find out if prayer works we pray and pay attention to what happens. That is reallyl what we need to do experiment. Though it is important to note that if we just do something on a whim without sincerity, hope, or any faith. Things wont work the same as if we do. God will not usually answer someone who does not really want the answer. Why is simply because he is blessing those people. If he did answer them he will need to hold them acoutnable for knowing and not listening or doing. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

We are often called a cult by people who are either misinformed or people who just want to put a negative spin on the church which is what calling it a cult does. So to say people "gossip" about what they know or understand very little about or just want to put a bad name to. Food for thought what is a cult? I recomend looking it up in the dictionary. Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

I will answer this question with a question. If you had found the way to heaven or how to be happeness would you tell your freinds about it? That is what we have and that is why we share it and we share it with everyone even if we don't know them because we are all children of our Heavenly Father. We lived with him before we came here to earth to learn and everyone should have the opertunity to learn that for themselfes. That opertunity should always be open to them no matter how uninterested they are now or what they have done in the past. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

First part of that is what is baptisim? Baptisim is a sacred probmise that we make with God through which we are sactified and become free of sin because of the blood of Christ. It is also one of the requirments to enter the kingdom of heaven. With that in mind why is authority important? Like any promise that we make we need to make sure that we know what we are promising and who we are pormising it to. Preisthood Authority is the basicly the right of Atorney for God for the salvation of his children. Another way to say it is the right to make promises for god concerning the state of someones soul. That is why the Authority is important without that authority we as imperfect people are promising others a ticket to heaven and we have no way to back that promise. Show more Show less
