Hi I'm Adam

I live in California. I write software for a living. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful woman and father to one beautiful little girl. I love my job as a programmer and also enjoy exercising (running, biking, etc.), playing sports (basketball, volleyball, etc.), reading, watching movies/tv, and playing video games. Above all else, I love spending time with my wife and daughter.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Catholic, but was never very religious growing up. When I was a teenager, I decided not to be confirmed and stopped going to church. I began to have a distrust for organized religion because it has caused so much turmoil in the world. Much pain and suffering has been inflicted due to differences in religious belief. I did not understand how anyone could be right when they all seemed to disagree with one another. I first found out about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I met the girl who is now my wife. She was raised in the Church and was an active member. I would go to Church dances with her and even attended a few Sundays, but it didn't seem any different than any other church to me. My wife accepted that I probably would never be religious, and decided to marry me anyway when I proposed a few years later. After about a year of marriage, I decided I should learn more about my wife's beliefs. I try to keep an open mind, and realized I didn't actually know anything about what she believed, so I decided to take lessons from the missionaries to learn more. The missionaries taught me about Joseph Smith and the Restoration. I couldn't help but feel a connection with Joseph Smith as I had the same concerns that he did. I agreed to read the Book of Mormon, and to start praying again. It had been quite a while since I had last prayed. As the missionaries taught me about the Book of Mormon, they often noted the presence of the Spirit during our discussions. One day, after receiving lessons from the missionaries for a few weeks, I had a very strong prompting from the Spirit. It was an experience unlike anything I'd ever felt before. A thought came very clearly into my mind, "I need to be baptized." I couldn't believe it at first, and when I told my wife, she couldn't believe it either, but I was convinced that I needed to, and wanted to be baptized. And, after finishing the lessons, that's exactly what I did.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a leader for the young men in my branch. I teach lessons every Sunday, and help to organize activities to allow the young men to spend time together doing fun activities like sports/video games. I also serve as home teacher for a number of families in the branch. As a home teacher, I visit the families assigned to me each month to see how they are doing, share a spiritual message, and offer my help if they are in need of anything.
