Hi I'm Tom Fletcher

I'm a husband and father of seven children and thirteen grandchildren. I've just been called on a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

At the age of 19 I served a mission for the church in Central America. I graduated with a BS in Physics and and MS in Electrical Engineering from BYU. While at BYU I met my wife in a Calculus class and we now have 7 children and 13 grandchildren. Our youngest daughter has Down Syndrome and lives at home. We are active members of the church and have served in many different callings. I worked for 37 years designing integrated circuits and am now retired. I also enjoy gardening, reading and inventing things. One of my favorite things has been to serve as an ordinance worker in the Portland Oregon LDS temple. I also enjoy doing family history research. My wife and I and our daughter Esther are going to the Netherlands/Belgium mission and enter the mission training center in October of 2016.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at age 8 in the basement of the Salt Lake City tabernacle. I've had many experiences in my life that have strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ and the Church. While doing family history work, I've felt the influence of those beyond the veil guiding me to their records. My service in the church has been a source of joy and has given me strength to overcome temptations and focus on what is most important in life. It has helped me to be a better husband and father. I think that by being close to the Spirit, we will have meaningful experiences that will help us to fulfill our purposes here on earth.

How I live my faith

One of my most important callings in the church is to be a home teacher. I think that the time we spend serving one another is very important. Each week I have the privilege of serving in the Portland Oregon temple. In the temple we dress in white clothing and perform sacred ordinances for the dead as well as the living that enable us to feel close to the Spirit and prepare to meet our Father in Heaven. I've also been given the opportunity to assist with the operation of the Church in leadership positions. By serving in the church I have found it easier to keep the Lord's commandments and rise above the things of the world. This has helped me to avoid degrading thoughts and addictions. Life takes on more meaning when we are using our time wisely and living for a purpose.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Tom Fletcher
Temples are where we can be married to our spouse for time and all eternity. All worthy members of the church can also receive the sacred ordinance called the endowment. We promise to live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ and to devote our lives to doing his work. Show more Show less
