Hi I'm Chris

I'm Asian, a chemist, music enthusiast, geek, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hm... where to begin... well as I'm sure you've already noticed, I'm Asian! I was born in the US but moved to Hong Kong when I was a little kid and grew up there. After high school I went to BY to study biochemistry. I'm also applying to medical school. I also love music - I grew up playing the violin and piano, picked up guitar a little later, and even sang in a choir at college! Now, I just go to school and work in a microbiology lab, testing antibacterial agents against things like staph.

Why I am a Mormon

If I answered this question a few years ago, I probably wouldn't know what to say! I would have probably said something to the effect that "I was born into the Church" or similar. However, the reason I'm a Mormon now is that I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that this Church was restored by the Lord Jesus Christ through the Prophet Joseph Smith. It's that simple! Even though I was born and raised in the Church by very active and faithful parents, I needed to come to know for myself that these doctrines, beliefs, practices, and et cetera were what I believed to be true. That answer, that knowledge, didn't come all at once, and while there were definite miraculous events in my life that left spiritual impressions upon me, the belief that these things were true (or this testimony as we call it) came as a result of the study and, more importantly, the application of the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ (See Alma chapter 32 in the Book of Mormon). There were times when I simply went through the motions (such as when my parents would drag me out of bed to Church), but I found that the more I lived by what I had been taught of my own free will and choice, and also understood why I did, my desire to become more like the Master increased and on the whole I found my life a lot more rewarding - the happiness that came to me was undeniably better than everything else I had experienced and the Holy Ghost confirms that these things are indeed true day by day. Indeed, He has also confirmed to me the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, the reality of God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ, and that this Church is truly the Lord's Church.

How I live my faith

Right now, I live it by sharing my faith every day with people, in the streets, on their doorsteps, and so on. It's a rather rewarding feeling to share something that means so much to you with other people that you love so much. That is part of how I live my faith. Outside of full-time missionary service, it would be striving to live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ, answering peoples' questions about my faith with what I know to be true, fulfilling my Church assignments I was one of the pianists in my congregation at BYU... there's a whole host of ways that Mormons live their faith and I'm not any different. I would say that I try to follow the words of the ancient Prophet Moroni, in Moroni 1032-33, to "come unto Christ, and be perfected in Him"
