Hi I'm Melanie

I'm a Mormon. My beliefs have helped me find true happiness and meaning in my life.

About Me

I am a college student studying Dietetics. I really love learning about nutrition and am excited for the opportunity to be a dietitian someday and use my knowledge to help others. I love to run and hope to do a marathon at some point of my life if I find enough motivation and time to train for one. My favorite food is a chocolate chip cookie because it always hits the spot (maybe I shouldn't have said I study nutrition ;) ). I love to laugh and be with family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are Mormon, so my four sisters and I would go to church with them while we were growing up, but to the credit of my parents, they never forced any of us to go. My parents taught us what they knew to be true and helped us to each learn for ourselves the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I chose to be baptized when I was eight years old and have chosen to go to church ever since. I enjoy going to church and learning about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the course of my life I have come to a knowledge that Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, live and love me and know me personally. God hears and answers my prayers. I know that He hears the prayers of all and that He loves all of His children. I know that Joseph Smith prayed to receive an answer to His prayer and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and through him restored the fulness of Christ's Gospel to the earth. Through the power of God, Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. I have read the Book of Mormon several times in my life, and I know without a doubt that it is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know the Bible contains the word of God when it is translated correctly. I know that God calls prophets today as He has throughout the history of the world, and I know that Thomas S. Monson is the current prophet of God today. I know that families have the potential to be together forever. As I continue to study my Book of Mormon and Bible and the words of the prophets and apostles and as I pray and try to live the best that I can, my knowledge of these truths grows and helps me to progress in my life and efforts to become more like the Savior.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be the best person I know how to be. I pray for help everyday, and then I go about my daily activites. At church I am a visiting teacher and a family home evening group leader. As a visiting teacher, my responsibility is to visit with and share a spiritual message with certain women in my ward as well as try to build a relationship with them. I try to learn about them and serve them the best I can. As a family home evening group leader, I plan Monday night activities and a spiritual thought for a small group of people in my ward. The activities are often friendship building or service-oriented in nature. Part of living my faith is just being friendly to everyone and trying to include others like the Savior would do.
