Hi I'm Cassie

I grew up in Orem, UT. I am a survivor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Cassie. I am 21 years old and I am attending college. My major? Linguistics My minor? Theatre My grades? Well... Improvable.I was born in Nashville, TN with a serious heart defect. I was missing the interventricular septum also know as the wall separating the lower chamber of the heart...kinda important...so the blood was going all the wrong places...I had one open heart surgery at just a few weeks old. My parents came out to UT about 2 years after I was born and I underwent two more open heart surgeries at Primary Children Medical Center. It has not been an easy journey, but if it was easy, it would be so boring. I have never felt like having a hole in my heart has held me back. Although I can't do EVERYTHING, I can do some things and I work hard to do those things well. I am fascinated by the world around me. History, languages, music, art, science, EVERYTHING! (well, not math...) I am singer and I sing all the time non-stop, because so much can be said through song. I am a writer and I write down all my thoughts and dreams and ideas. I am a water-advocate and spend as much time as possible swimming, water-skiing, sailing, boating, wind surfing, snorkeling. I am a sister and I love my family more than anything. They make my life so much more fun! I never want to lose a moment because I know, first hand, how valuable one second of life is and I cherish each second.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the church, I do not take it for granted. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a pillar in my life and the peace I feel cannot be matched to any worldly thing. I love knowing that I am a daughter of God and that His son died for me. I could never deny the love I have felt from my Savior and the sacrifice He gave for me. The doctors told my parents that I would not live. They told my mom to have an abortion. They said it would be a miracle if I lived past 5. Today I stand knowing that I only lived because I was blessed by loving Heavenly Father. He gave me the opportunity to live on this earth. My future is uncertain, but I am not afraid because I KNOW I am in the Lord's hands. Whatever trials lie ahead for me, I know I can handle because Christ has been through it. He knows what I feel and experience and He really does care! He is in control and He will always be there for me. I cannot imagine my life with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Each day I wake up I remember how blessed I am to be alive. Without the Lord's hand, I would not be here today. My Heavenly Father blessed me with my life and it is my privilege to serve His children each day. Some days I wake up and feel so overwhelmed with problems of the world. If I become stressed or consumed in my life then I begin to lose track of others and focus only on myself. But how can I or anyone live with a complete inward focus? I find service and giving as important for the body as oxygen and water. Reaching out to others seems to provide a stimulation for the brain and body. I am always happier when I serve others first and forget myself! I am grateful to be alive and have these opportunities! True happiness cannot be attained with money, fame or nice cars. That is only superficial happiness that will fade quickly. Love and Charity, the pure love of Christ, will engrave happiness into our hearts, minds and souls. There is nothing more marvelous we can give others than love! I am just one person trying to find my way and make my mark. I am a student learning all that I can about the world. I am a survivor remembering that each day I am lucky to be alive. My name is Cassie, and I am a Mormon.
