Hi I'm Kelly

I'm a mother of three. I teach piano lessons. I volunteer for the local schools. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spend a lot of time teaching and talking to children. After helping my three wonderful children get ready for school every morning, I often head over to the schools myself to volunteer. Whether it's making copies or laminating in the office, teaching Junior Great Books, running spelling bees, or serving on the board of the parent-teacher organization, I manage to find ways to stay busy and help my children's schools be the very best they can. After school, I grab a snack with my children and then begin teaching piano lessons. It is a joy to me to help my students master something challenging and learn to express themselves musically. Yes, I even teach my own children piano lessons. On weekends, I can be found hiking or biking with my family, and on Sundays I teach children to sing children's songs and hymns about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a child, my parents gave me a red-letter edition of the Bible. I loved this book, because everything Jesus said was printed in red. It helped me to understand who Jesus was, what he did for me, and how much he loves me. I know that He still lives and loves us, and blesses us despite our flaws and faults. My parents also taught me to love the Book of Mormon, which is also about Jesus Christ. I often wondered why it wasn't printed in red in spots, because it too shares Jesus' words. With this love of the scriptures and love of the Lord, came my desire to follow his advice, as found in the scriptures. I came to understand that the commandments the Lord gives us are meant to protect and bless us, not simply to keep us from doing whatever we want. We can choose to take his advice, and be blessed, or we can ignore it and suffer. Obviously, it is impossible to be perfectly obedient your whole life through, no matter how hard you try, so I am especially grateful for the Savior's suffering and atonement for me when I fall short. After all He has done for me, I want to give back to Him in the small way I can. This is His church, and I intend to spend my life serving Him here.

How I live my faith

I love teaching children songs about Jesus every Sunday at church. The lyrics of those songs bear testimony of how much the Lord loves children. Some of my favorites are "I Know That My Savior Loves Me" and "I Am a Child of God." There is something special about singing simple words that teach the gospel in simple ways. When I sing those "I know" phrases, I can feel in my heart the truth of what we are singing.
