Hi I'm Luisa

I'm a triathlete, I'm a salsa dancer, I'm a Mom, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Luisa... I live in Idaho with my husband, Nate. We have an 8 month old son named Jace. He is the light of our lives and the most beautiful child either one of us has ever seen. My husband is a photographer by trade and I am his back-up photographer. I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree online through BYU. The program is fantastic, because it is specifically geared towards parents. I enjoy cooking, baking, EATING, reading, blogging, sewing, running and sunbathing. I am currently training for the Grand Canyon Marathon coming up in November 2011. The training has been arduous but worth it and I can't wait for Race Day! I LOVE to travel more than anything. I'm not scared of trying new things, and I love adventure and exploring.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both converts to the Church, so they weren't raised living the lifestyle that we do now. Both of them grew up in dysfunctional environments [my maternal grandfather was an alcoholic, and my paternal grandfather abandoned his family, so my father had to drop out of school to work to provide for his mother and siblings]. When my parents married, they determined to give their children a different experience. As such, I was raised Mormon, and have never been a member of any other church. However, there came a time in my life when I NEEDED to find out FOR MYSELF whether I believed in the Church and it's teachings. I couldn't just lean on the testimonies of my parents forever. I was becoming an adult, and needed to decide if I was going to be a Mormon of my own free will and choice, rather than just because 'I was raised that way.' God, in all reality, IS our Heavenly Father. He LOVES us; He KNOWS us; He DESIRES our happiness; He listens, He blesses, He comforts and He ADORES each and every one of us. When I decided to take my doubts and questions to Him personally, I knew that He would answer me, because I am His precious daughter. I prayed... and I waited... and slowly the Spirit wrapped, figuratively wrapped his arms around me, and with warmth and love assured me that the Church is true, the Jesus Christ is my Elder Brother and Savior, and that someday, I may return to my Heavenly Father. That being said, my testimony has continued to grow, day by day, as I live the commandments and try to follow Jesus Christ. It didn't all come at once, but living the gospel is the only sure test to prove it's validity.

How I live my faith

'Living My Faith' is a daily decision. I know that I am an imperfect person, so I constantly have to be reminding myself to become more and more like Jesus Christ. Apart from just trying to become a better person, my service within the church is working with the group of women called the Relief Society. I LOVE that name, because that is what we do: we are a society that provides relief. When we were baptized, we promised to "mourn with those that mourn, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort" [Mosiah 18:8-10]. We bring meals, we clean the houses of the old or sickly, we watch children, we do everything we can to serve the Lord by serving those He loves... His children.
