Hi I'm Dan

I enjoy bicycling, woodworking, and mostly spending time with my family. And, yes, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a biochemist by day, and my hobbies include (when I get a chance): photography, woodworking (I build ukuleles for fun, although I am only now learning to play them), bicycling, windsurfing, SCUBA diving, and my '69 Karmann Ghia that I hope to be able to convert to electric some day. My true love is my family - I have a lovely wife, a 5 year old son, and a 9 month old daughter. I couldn't be closer to my son, and so I generally choose to spend time doing things like kicking a ball or playing catch with him rather than doing those hobbies I just mentioned, but as he gets older I know that we will be able to spend time together doing some of those things as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up not thinking a whole lot about religion - other than having to go to church fairly regularly, but just because my mother wanted me to. Then I got to know some Mormon friends, and began to be interested in what made them different. They had something unique - an inner strength I guess - that made me want to know more. Then, learning that we are all spirit children of our Heavenly Father, that he loves me, and that he has a plan for us in this life got me to a point where I sincerely wanted to know if the LDS church was true. With faith that God would lead me in the right direction, I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it was true. The answer I received through the Spirit gave me the testimony I needed to know that the church was true and to decide to be baptized. I was 23 years old at the time and decided a year later to serve a mission so that I could share the joy of the truth with others, as Christ teaches us to do. I served my mission in Milan Italy and can say that it was one of the most incredible experiences in my life. I am a Mormon because I cannot deny God's love. He sent his son Jesus Christ who gave his life that we might return to be with our Heavenly Father again if we follow his example. Life has a purpose - that we can have joy now, and eternal life through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I strive daily to live my faith by trying to follow the example of Christ by being honest, kind, forgiving and charitable. I admit that many times I fall short, but I believe that I can do better each day by studying the scriptures, and praying for the Holy Spirit to give me strength to be more like Christ.
